摘要: Kits and methods for use in intraoperative trailing of hip prostheses to determine an appropriate length for the femoral neck component of a prosthetic hip joint, are described. A kit for use in selecting a femoral neck component of an orthopaedic joint prosthesis kit comprises a first (10) and a second (110) broach. Each of the first and second broaches has a neck connection element comprising a projection (12, 112) extending from a proximal surface (14, 114) of the broach, each projection having a length (L). The projection on the first broach has a different length than the projection on the second broach. The kit also includes a trial femoral neck (30) component having a neck connection element in the form of a recess (36) in a distal surface (34). The recess is configured to mate with the projection on each of the first or second broaches such that mating of the trial femoral neck component with the first broach provides an assembly with a first neck length, and the mating of the trial femoral neck component with the second broach provides an assembly with a second neck length.

摘要: An orthopaedic knee prosthesis includes a tibial bearing and a femoral component configured to articulate with the tibial bearing. The femoral component includes a posterior cam configured to contact a spine of the tibial bearing and a condyle surface curved in the sagittal plane. The radius of curvature of the condyle surface decreases gradually between early-flexion and mid-flexion. Additionally, in some embodiments, the radius of curvature of the condyle surface may be increased during mid-flexion.

摘要: A collar arranged to couple to a prosthetic component for implantation at the end of a long bone, the prosthetic component having a distal portion arranged to couple to the bone and a proximal neck portion arranged to couple to an articulation component. The collar comprises a plate including a neck hole to receive a neck portion, such that the collar can rotate about the neck portion. The collar further comprises a plurality of attachment portions for coupling the plate to bone fragments or soft tissues. The collar is lockable to the neck portion to prevent further rotation. A prosthesis comprising a combination of a collar, a prosthetic component and an articulation component, and a surgical method of using the collar are also disclosed.

摘要: An apparatus and method for aligning an acetabular cup. The apparatus may include an acetabular cup (150, 10) and/or a protractor (30) and/or a depth gauge tool (90) and may be provided in the form of a surgical kit. Components of the apparatus may allow an angle of rotation of an acetabular cup about an axis (111) of the cup relative to an anatomical feature of a patient to be determined when the acetabular cup implant is placed in the acetabulum of the patient. Components of the apparatus may allow an amount of overhang between a rim (12, 162) of an acetabular cup and an edge of the acetabulum to be determined. The acetabular cup may be an acetabular trial cup (10) or and acetabular cup implant (150). Embodiments of the invention may allow both the angle of rotation about the cup axis and the amount of overhang between the rim and the acetabulum edge to be determined.

摘要: A surgical instrument assembly includes a metallic hemispherical component and a driver component removably coupled to the hemispherical component. The metallic hemispherical component has a convex outer surface configured to engage a patient's natural acetabulum, a concave inner surface positioned opposite the outer surface and defining a cavity in the hemispherical component, a plurality of cutting teeth extending outwardly from the outer surface, and a plurality of apertures defined in the inner surface. The driver component has a shank and a plurality of ribs secured to, and extending outwardly from, the shank. Each rib has a tab that is received in a corresponding aperture of the hemispherical component to secure the driver component to the hemispherical component.

摘要: A surgical impaction apparatus. The surgical impaction apparatus includes a surgical hammer (10). The surgical hammer has a handle. The surgical hammer also has an impaction head (2) having an impaction axis (7) and a striking face (20). The striking face is substantially perpendicular to the impaction axis. The surgical hammer further has an inertial measurement unit (30), which is operable to measure a direction in which an impaction force is applied by the impaction head relative to the impaction axis. A method of providing feedback to a surgeon about an impaction force applied by an impaction head of a surgical hammer. The method includes striking an object with a striking face of the impaction head. The method also includes measuring a direction in which an impaction force was applied by the impaction head relative to an impaction axis of the impaction head. The striking face is substantially perpendicular to the impaction axis.
