摘要:
Waterjet systems including control valves and associated devices, systems, and methods are disclosed. A waterjet system configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a fluid source, a jet outlet, and a fluid conveyance extending from the fluid source to the jet outlet. The system further includes a control valve positioned along the fluid conveyance downstream from the fluid source and upstream from the jet outlet. The fluid conveyance has a first portion upstream from the control valve and a second portion downstream from the control valve. The control valve is configured to controllably reduce a pressure of fluid within the second portion of the fluid conveyance relative to a pressure of fluid within the first portion of the fluid conveyance. The first portion of the fluid conveyance is configured to accommodate movement of the jet outlet relative to the fluid source.

Particle delivery apparatuses for use in abrasive jet systems and associated apparatuses, systems, and methods are disclosed. A particle delivery apparatus configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a cutting head, a gas inlet, and a control junction. An abrasive delivery path extends from a particle hopper toward the cutting head. A gas flow path extends from the gas inlet toward the cutting head. The control junction is configured to collect abrasive particles in a pile that blocks a flow of abrasive particles along the abrasive delivery path. The pile forms when a gas flow rate through a free space around the pile and a pressure differential between the hopper and the abrasive delivery path downstream from the control junction are insufficient to partially or entirely displace the pile.

Control valves for waterjet systems, control-valve actuators, waterjet systems, methods for operating waterjet systems, and associated devices, systems, and methods are disclosed. A control valve configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes a first seat having a tapered inner surface, a second seat having a contact surface, and an elongated pin having a shaft portion and an end portion. The pin is movable relative to the first and second seats between a shutoff position and one or more throttling positions. When the pin is at the shutoff position, the end portion of the pin is in contact with the contact surface. When the pin is at the throttling position, the end portion of the pin is spaced apart from the contact surface and the tapered inner surface and the shaft portion of the pin at least partially define a throttling gap.

Various embodiments of waterjet cutting systems are described herein. In one embodiment, a waterjet cutting system includes a waterjet cutting device coupled to a pressurized water source. The waterjet cutting device includes a waterjet cutting head and a fluid conduit configured to carry pressurized water to the waterjet cutting head. The fluid conduit has a wall defining a longitudinal passage through which the pressurized water travels. The fluid conduit also has a through hole extending from the outer surface of the wall to the longitudinal passage. The through hole has a cross-sectional shape with a maximum longitudinal dimension generally parallel to the longitudinal passage and a maximum latitudinal dimension generally perpendicular to the longitudinal passage. In one aspect of this embodiment, the maximum longitudinal dimension is greater than the maximum latitudinal dimension. Methods of forming fluid conduits according to various embodiments are also described herein.

An abrasive supply system may, for example, be used to supply abrasive particles such as garnet to a cutting nozzle of an abrasive jet cutter. According to an embodiment, the abrasive is propelled by a substantially constant flow rate gas source. According to an embodiment, the system may be supplied with abrasive from an atmospheric pressure abrasive hopper. According to an embodiment, a controller automatically actuates refilling of an abrasive tank from the abrasive hopper, and then automatically closes an abrasive supply valve and restarts abrasive propulsion. According to an embodiment, the controller may include or consist of pneumatic logic.

Various embodiments of fluid-jet systems are described herein. In one embodiment, a fluid-jet system includes a table and two bridges that are each longitudinally movable along the table. Each bridge carries a fluid-jet cutting head latitudinally movable along the bridge. The fluid-jet system also includes a first controller operably coupled to the first bridge and the first fluid-jet cutting head. The first controller controls the first bridge and the first fluid-jet cutting head. The fluid-jet system also includes a second controller operably coupled to the second bridge and the second fluid-jet cutting head. The second controller controls the second bridge and the second fluid-jet cutting head independently of the control of the first bridge and the first fluid-jet cutting head by the first controller.

A pressure pump may include a reciprocating assembly including a dynamic seal configured to be in sliding contact with a surface. The surface may be implanted with positive ions such as hydrogen ions/protons to provided reduced wear and/or greater service life of the dynamic seal. According to embodiments, a pump may include an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene dynamic seal may substantially fixed relative to a cylinder wall, and a proton impregnated reciprocating plunger may pump high pressure water or a water based fluid in a system. The pump may exhibit increased dynamic seal life.

A flash vaporizing liquid jet cutting tool and method for piercing with minimal damage to the cut material. The liquid is preferably superheated water, typically with abrasive particles added after the jet is expressed through a nozzle (abrasive water jet, AWJ) or with abrasive particles added before the jet is expressed through a nozzle (abrasive slurry jet, ASJ). In piercing, only a portion of water that has not changed phase enters into the cavity or must leave the cavity and the piercing pressure, which can damage the material, is therefore reduced.

A system for controlling motion in machine tools and industrial robots. From the specification of a part to be cut or a path to be followed by a machine tool or a robot, the system calculates, for each axis, for each incremental step along the path, a position command, a time delay between successive position commands, and, optionally, a force command based on a prediction of predicted resistive forces. Calculations are specified for precisely controlling velocity, acceleration, and jerk. The generated data is stored in a memory device and subsequently directed to the machine tool or robot.
