Abstract:
A valve assembly and mounting cup combination which comprises a mounting cup having an exterior, outwardly facing surface and an interior, inwardly facing surface, and a perimeter curl for attaching the mounting cup to a desired rim of a container. The mounting cup includes a pedestal portion with a conically-shaped top surface having a centrally located aperture formed therein and a gasket is disposed within the pedestal portion between an undersurface of the pedestal portion and a valve assembly. The valve assembly comprises a valve body, a valve stem with a base, and a spring. The assembly is disposed in and retained by the pedestal portion, via a conventional crimping process, with a product outlet carried by the valve stem and protruding through the aperture in the gasket and the central aperture. The spring biases the valve base against the gasket to form a seal therebetween. The conical shape of the top wall of the pedestal portion provides an enhanced clearance between and undersurface of the gasket and an adjacent surface of the base. This enhanced clearance allows the radial orifices, carried by the valve stem, to be located therebetween and have relatively large diameters. This, in turn, facilitates forming of the radial orifices in the valve stem during the initial molding process, instead of during a subsequent manufacturing step.
Abstract:
In an aerosol valve the flow path includes a compartment having an inlet into the compartment and a valve seat at the upper end of the compartment, a pocket is disposed downward from the seat opening, the pocket containing a gravity-responsive ball. When the valve is being used in dispensing and is tipped in a direction which brings the ball closer to the flow through the compartment, the ball becomes entrained in the fluid flow and flies up to seat on the valve seat to block it off, precluding further discharge. When the aerosol valve is released, a bypass raises the pressure inside the valve body so that the ball will fall away from the seat. The purpose is to avoid the escape of propellant which might occur in tipping if the lower end of the dip tube is exposed to the head space.
Abstract:
Metering valve employs resilient ball to block inlet while outlet port is open. Inlet seat includes projections which assure unseating of the ball when the valve actuator is released.
Abstract:
Plastic squeeze bottle is provided with discharge tube as well as down tube extending from above the powder level to the lower end of the discharge tube. Baffle is disposed at the lower end of the two tubes. During dispensing, squeeze of the bottle increases air pressure above the powder which drives air down through the powder and drives air down down tube to fluidize powder on the baffle from whence it moves upward through discharge tube to discharge.
Abstract:
A food product dispenser valve which comprises a mounting cup which has a grommet/stem opening formed therein; a grommet defining an axial passageway which extends along an axial length of the grommet and has a sealing edge formed in an upstream end thereof, and a body of the grommet extends through the grommet/stem opening; a valve stem accommodated within the passageway, and the valve stem has a sealing head which is spaced apart from a valve stem shoulder; and a dispensing actuator surrounds a portion of the body of the grommet which extends through the grommet/stem opening, and has a product discharge outlet. The spacing of the sealing head from the valve stem shoulder is less than an axially height of the grommet so that the grommet normally biases the sealing head into sealing engagement with the annular sealing edge to prevent flow through the food product dispenser valve.
Abstract:
An aerosol spray actuator for a pressurized aerosol canister and in particular trigger or button actuated spray actuators having three main parts to simplify the mechanical moving parts of a spray actuator. An actuator button, an actuator base and finally a nozzle piece being inserted at the very end of a product dispensing passage embodied either in the body or the trigger part. A mechanism for permitting and blocking the actuation of the spray actuator is also provided so that inadvertent operation of the actuator can be prevented.

Abstract:
A holder for an aerosol can is provided in which a pivotable trigger mechanism can actuate the aerosol can by inducing a compressive force on the lower end of the can. When inducing this compressive force, the pivotable trigger mechanism is at an angle with the holder wall. After dispersing the contents of the aerosol can, the pivotable trigger mechanism can then be rotated such that the trigger mechanism substantially covers an opening in the holder body.
Abstract:
An actuator comprising an exterior housing having an outer wall with a product discharge outlet formed therein. The exterior housing also has a central post supporting a bore which communicates with both a product inlet and the product discharge outlet to facilitate the dispensing of product via the actuator. A base of the exterior housing has an annular skirt portion provided for engagement with a mounting cup during a button-on-filling process. At least a base of the skirt portion, provided for engaging with a mounting cup during a button-on-filling process, is formed from a softer material than a remainder of the actuator to facilitate sufficient deformation of the base of the skirt portion, during the button-on-filling process, to provide an adequate seal with a top surface of the mounting cup. The remainder of the actuator is preferably manufactured from one of nylon, polypropylene and acetal while the annular skirt portion is manufactured from one of a low density polyethylene, a high density polyethylene and a thermoplastic rubber.
Abstract:
In a whipped cream dispenser incorporating a tilt-type aerosol valve the tubular actuator has at its base a downwardly facing annular shoulder. This shoulder, by butting against the metal of the valve pedestal, prevents further tilting and further stress on the tubular valve spout. Further, ribs on the stem and actuator keep the actuator in fully installed position on the valve stem.
