摘要:
An improved upright open front refrigerated display cabinet having primary and secondary air flow conduits, in which air flow directing means are provided for selectively drawing ambient air into the secondary air band conduit during a defrost cycle and for substantially preventing ambient air from entering the secondary conduit during a refrigeration cycle and for directing the flow of air through the secondary conduit in a first direction during the refrigeration cycle and in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction, during the defrost cycle. Fans are provided in each of the primary and secondary conduits; the direction of air flow in the primary conduit remains constant at all times, during both refrigeration and defrost cycles. The secondary band fans propel air in a first direction (codirectional with air flow in the primary conduit) during the refrigeration cycle and in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction during the defrost cycle whereby the ambient air is mixed with air propelled by primary fans in the primary conduit. Finally, means are provided for diverting air from the secondary conduit to the primary conduit during the defrost cycle and for substantially preventing the diversion of air from the secondary conduit to the primary conduit during the refrigeration cycle.

A commercial refrigerator, having an open front display section and a rear storage section in which first air circulating fans draw air from the storage section and propells it through refrigeration coils to a bifurcated conduit for which directs at least some refrigerated air propelled by the first fans through the refrigeration coils along a first path directly into the storage section and for directing other refrigerated air propelled by the first fans through the coils along a second path directly across the open front of the display section to form an inner air curtain; return fans are provided for directing the downstream end of the inner air curtain along the floor of the display section and into the storage section; a second set of air circulating fans are provided in a further conduit for directing air around the exterior of the storage and display sections and across the access opening to form an outer air curtain; and a divider is provided which separates the display and storage sections, the divider containing an access opening for communicating the storage and display sections.

An open top refrigerated display case having an ambient air automatic defrost system and a method of operating such a case. A single air conduit extends in a U-shaped formation along opposing side walls and the bottom wall of the display case. The air conduit has openings at both ends in the location of the upper portions of the side walls. Arranged within the air conduit is at least one reversible fan and a set of refrigeration coils. During a refrigeration cycle the fan circulates air through the air conduit in a first direction towards the refrigeration coils. When frost buildup within the display case has reached a certain level, the system is switched to a defrost cycle. During the defrost cycle, the fan circulates the air in the opposite direction through the air conduit and draws in ambient air from outside of the display case. Since such ambient air is of a higher temperature than the normally refrigerated air, it serves to defrost the system. The ambient air, after passing over the evaporator coils and through the air conduit, is expelled from the air conduit in a direction towards the outer side of the refrigerated case and away from the interior of the case.

A closed circuit refrigeration system includes a compressor, a remote condenser coupled to the output of the compressor, a receiver tank coupled downstream of the condenser means, and one or more evaporators coupled between the receiver and compressor return. A bypass conduit is coupled between the condenser output and receiver input at one end and between the receiver output and evaporator input at the other end; and a temperature controlled valve selectively controls the flow of refrigerant through the bypass conduit as a function of the temperature of refrigerant at the condenser output. A check valve in the condenser output conduit prevents backflow of refrigerant during periods of low condenser pressure. A method of operating a closed circuit refrigeration system is included in which a receiver tank bypass line is controlled responsive to the condition of the refrigerant in the condenser output.

An automatically operated flexible barrier cover for the access openings of refrigerated display cabinets. The barrier cover limits the contact between the refrigerated air within the cabinet and the ambient air. The barrier cover can be moved over the access opening during non-customer use time periods when the retail food outlet is closed. The barrier cover can be arranged as a unitary assembly which can be manufactured and sold separately from the display cabinet as a retrofit device to effect energy savings. The flexible barrier cover can be stored in a reeled-up position or can be arranged as a folded flexible barrier which can be fanned out across the access opening. Various traction means are provided for moving the flexible barrier across the access opening.

An open top refrigerated display case having an ambient air defrost system and a method of operating such display case, at least one air conduit extends in a U-shaped formation along opposing side walls and a bottom wall of the refrigerated display case. Each of the air conduits has an opening at both ends with such openings being located at upper portions of the side walls and in alignment so as to direct air across the access opening for recirculation through the air conduit during a refrigeration cycle of operation. Arranged within the primary air conduit is a set of refrigeration coils and at least one reversible fan for circulating air through such air conduit. During a refrigeration cycle of operation, the fan circulates air through the air conduit in a first direction through the refrigeration coils. During a defrost cycle of operation, the fan circulates air through the air conduit in the opposite direction and draws in ambient air from outside of the display case. During such defrost cycle of operation, the air leaving the air conduit is directed and supplied with a sufficient momentum so that such air travels along a path over the opposing side wall of the display case so that the air does not reenter the air conduit.

A well type open top refrigerated display case has a primary air conduit extending around the cabinet and main fans for circulating air through the primary conduit and across the open top of the cabinet in the form of an air curtain. A column extends upwardly from and above the well type region; defrost fans are located in a defrost conduit in the column. Defrost control means are provided for energizing the defrost fans at the start of a defrost cycle to draw ambient air from above the refrigerated display case into the upper portion of the defrost conduit at a higher pressure than the air pressure in the region of the open top; a portion of the higher pressure ambient air is directed out of the defrost conduit to collide with the air curtain flowing across the open top, the flow of the air curtain being thereby reversed and caused to flow over the top of and outside the display case. A further portion of ambient air is drawn downwardly by the main fans to flow through the primary conduit and assist in defrosting the coils.
