Abstract:
A spool brake device is configured to brake a spool capable of winding thereabout a fishing line having a terminal tackle. The spool brake device includes a spool braking part, a spool controlling part, a rotational speed detecting part, and a water landing determining part. The spool braking part is configured to electrically brake the spool in releasing the fishing line. The rotational speed detecting part is configured to detect a rotational speed of the spool. The water landing determining part configured to brake the spool in a predetermined timing after starting of casting with a braking force greater than a predetermined braking force, and to determine whether or not the terminal tackle is in a water landing state in accordance with a detection result of the rotational speed after releasing of braking. The water landing state indicating that the terminal tackle is in water.
Abstract:
The fishing reel has a body and a deceleration controller. The body has a magnetic spool and a side cover. The deceleration controller is mounted on the side cover and has a mounting tube, a moving shaft, a magnetic assembly and a switching button. The mounting tube is mounted through the side cover and has an inner thread. The moving shaft is movably mounted through the mounting tube and has an inside end, an outside end, an outer surface and a thread section. The thread section is formed in the outer surface of the moving shaft and screwed with the inner thread of the mounting tube. The magnetic assembly is securely mounted on the inside end of the moving shaft. The switching button is mounted securely on the outside end of the moving shaft to turn the moving shaft moveable inwardly or outwardly relative to the magnetic spool.

A spool brake mechanism 25 is a device for braking a spool. The spool brake mechanism 25 includes a spool brake member 40 and a control component 55. The control component 55 is configured to control a spool brake member with first braking force. The control component 55 is also configured to control the spool brake member with second braking force when tension detected by a tension detection member becomes equal to or less than a reference tension.
Abstract:
This invention is a rotary motion control device comprising a housing, a rotor for connection to a rotary member to be braked, a magnetorheological material contacting the rotor, a first set of magnets having alternating magnetic orientation and a second set of magnets having alternating magnetic orientation, the first and second sets of magnets are adapted for selective alignment with respect to each other so that the magnetic orientation of one of the magnet sets may be repositioned relative to the other of the magnet sets to modulate the overall field strength of the magnets and change the viscosity of the magnetorheological material so that the shearing force on the rotor is increased or decreased. The invention further includes a fishing reel with a brake and a method for controlling the speed of a rotating member.
Abstract:
A spool control unit includes a circuit board, a plurality of electric components, an external device connector, and an insulating film. The circuit board includes a printed circuit on a surface thereof. The plurality of electric components include a microcomputer that controls the fishing equipment through a control program, and are disposed on the circuit board such that they are electrically connected to the printed circuit. The external device connector is mounted on the circuit board such that it is electronically connected to the printed circuit, and serves to connect to an external device. The insulating film covers at least a portion of the circuit board as well as the electric components but does not cover the regions of the circuit board on which the external device connector is mounted.
Abstract:
A spool braking device for a dual-bearing reel that applies a braking force to a spool during casting includes a spool brake unit, a switch element, a casting state detecting device and a spool control device. The spool brake unit is configured to brake the spool and includes a rotor having a plurality of magnets and a plurality of coils. The magnets are arranged along a rotational direction with alternating polarities. The coils are arranged to be spaced apart in a circumferential direction. The coils have end faces that are arranged to face a side face of the rotor. Each of the coils has a winding diameter that is larger than a full length of the coil. The casting state detecting device is configured to detect a casting state. The spool control device is configured to control an on/off status of the switch element based on the casting state.
Abstract:
A dual bearing reel includes a reel unit having a handle and mounted on a fishing rod, a spool in which a fishing line is mounted, and a spool braking device mounted on the reel unit so as to be at least partially exchangeable with another spool braking device. The spool is rotatably mounted on the reel unit so as to be rotatable by the handle. The spool braking device includes a spool braking portion that brakes the spool according to a first predetermined braking characteristic, and a first device identification portion that indicates the first predetermined braking characteristic. The user can confirm the braking characteristic of a spool braking device when the spool braking device is exchanged with another spool braking device having a different braking characteristic.

Abstract:
A dual bearing reel includes a basic unit and a cover portion. The basic unit includes a spool, a spool driving mechanism, and a reel body. The reel body includes a main frame having first and second side plates that are spaced apart from each other, and connectors linking the first and second side plates, and third and fourth side plates each detachably mounted to the main frame. The spool and spool driving mechanism are installed in the main frame so as to function in cooperation with each other. The cover portion includes first and second cover members each detachably mounted to the reel body so as to cover the exteriors of the third and fourth side plates. More flexible ornamental design of dual bearing reel is possible while securing its indispensable functions. Also, a common part, which can be used in dual bearing reels of other models, is established.
