    摘要: Systems for effecting transfer of reaction receptacles between modules of an instrument for performing multi-step analytical procedures and for adjusting for variations in the positions of such modules includes a receptacle carrier supported on a track on which the carrier translates between different modules located adjacent to the track. The carrier includes a receptacle distribution head supported on a receptacle carrier carriage. The distribution head includes a receptacle moving mechanism adapted to move receptacles into and out of the distribution head and into and out of a module. The carriage is engaged with the track and adapted for translation along the track. Drive systems effect powered translation of the carriage, powered elevation and rotation of the distribution head, and powered movement of receptacles into and out of the distribution head. A transfer position locating system automatically determines a receptacle transfer position of the receptacle carrier with respect to each module.

    摘要: A method and device for the automated large scale preparation for testing of drug-drug interactions, particularly with determination of IC50 and Ki, as a screening tool enhancement for determining viability of large numbers of compounds as drug candidates. Small samples of specific probe substrates and new compound inhibitors are automatically dispensed en masse into multi-welled reaction plates which are prefilled with thawed human microsomes, buffer and cofactor. The reaction plates are incubated and the reaction products are tested within degradation time limits, for initial biological determinations of relevant interaction effects of the compounds. The device used for the preparations comprises computer controlled multiple liquid handling cannulas, micropipetting members, refrigeration, freezer and temperature controlled incubator units, vacuum filtration device, bar code tracking of the plates, transport mechanisms for movement and manipulation of multiwell plates and sample mixing elements with co-ordinated timing of all operations within limited timeframe testing parameters.

    摘要: An extraction cartridge, for extracting a component from a composition, contains a packing composition including a buffer composition, diatomaceous earth and absorbent. The cartridge is made by heating each component to assure it is free from contaminants. The diatomaceous earth is sifted to obtain a particular particle size. The cartridge also includes frits and filters for holding the packing composition within the cartridge. All of the components of the cartridge are selected or processed to assure that no contaminants are leached into the sample being extracted. A processing system automatically processes a plurality of cartridges. The processing system, which is capable of continuous operation, includes a platform, a rack for holding the cartridges, sample vials and extraction tubes. A walking beam conveyor system moves the rack along the platform and a system of robotic arms automatically transfers the sample to be extracted from the sample vial to the extraction cartridge and adds a predetermined amount of solvent into the extraction cartridge. The extraction process includes adding a sample into the extraction cartridge, waiting a predetermined time, adding a predetermined amount of solvent and collecting the solvent in a collection tube. The processing system can be controlled by a computer system including a dual microprocessor.
