摘要: A plasmarc furnace for remelting metals and alloys in a controlled atmosphere, which comprises a hollow consumable electrode disposed in a crystallizer and an arc plasmatron with a nonconsumable electrode disposed above the hollow consumable electrode coaxially therewith. A hollow rod is provided above and coaxial with the arc plasmation driven by a vertical travel mechanism and insulated from the arc plasmatron leads. The plasma-forming gas is delivered to the plasma discharge zone by a plasma-forming gas supply and flow rate control system via a gas conduit defined by the cavities of the hollow rod, the arc plasmatron and the hollow consumable electrode. The crystallizer and hollow rod are coupled to the opposite poles of the power source.

摘要: A vacuum electric arc furnace for consumable electrodes, with a bottom section enclosing a crucible, a movable top section for accommodating the consumable electrodes, a lock chamber with a lock valve between bottom section and top section, and an annular splash protector. The annular splash protector is located concentric with the crucible axis and is movable vertically within the lock chamber. With the lock valve open, the protector is seated and with the lock valve closed it is flush with the top side of the valve and can be pressed against it. Towards the top, the annular splash protector turns into an apron which acts together with a fixed opposite apron in the lock chamber in telescope fashion throughout at least a major portion of the travel.

摘要: An electric furnace installation in which a simple interchangeability of electrode clamping assemblies is provided to permit electrode melting operation in which single or plural electrodes can be mounted on the basic furnace tower for melting in a crucible means. One clamping assembly is used for single electrodes and a second clamping assembly is used for plural electrodes. The interchangeable electrode clamping assemblies are designed for ease of rapid removal from and rapid connection onto an upper carriage of the basic furnace. A lower carriage which helps support and stabilize the crucible can accommodate crucibles for single and for plural electrode melting.
