A novel container called a tire tube is made from whole, used tires. They are first turned inside out or inverted. Several tire tubes may be connected together side by side with holes aligned sing fasteners such as screws. With the ends sealed the tire tube may be used as a container for toxic substance storage, or sand to act as a highway bumper. With the ends left open the tire tube may be used as a conduit, or a culvert. Supported to allow rotation at a slight angle to the horizontal and with the higher end being fed material, the rotating tire tube tumbles the material to the exit end. With rock added, the result of tumbling is a pulverizing action. By adding organic material and keeping it moist the rotating tire tube becomes a continuous-action composter.

A multi-chamber inclined ball mill comprises a base, a frame-shaped support member rotatably supported on the base, and a grinding chamber rotatably supported on the frame-shaped support member. The grinding chamber is constituted of at least three cylindrical chambers each provided with outwardly tapered protrusions at its opposite ends and the cylindrical chambers integrally formed so that their longitudinal axes mutually intersect at the centers thereof and form a common grinding space at their region of intersection. The grinding chamber is supported on the frame-shaped support member such that the longitudinal axes of the cylindrical chambers intersect the axis of rotation of the frame-shaped support member at a single point and at one and the same angle.

Three mill units are mounted axially in series in a mill housing with a cover. Each mill unit has a rotor disc between two stator discs. The rotor discs are secured to the rotor shaft at their radially interior region. The stator discs are secured to the housing wall at their radially outer region. Individual pulverization gaps are formed between the stator discs, which gaps run around the rotor discs and in longitudinal cross section extend sequentially with a serpentine shape. The outer parts of the pulverization gaps form individual gap loops the inner ends of which are connected or "short-circuited" via ball return channels. During operation, the grinding elements are accelerated outward by centrifugal forces, and are concentrated into the gap loops. The grinding elements in each of the individual stages may be kept separated from the grinding elements in other stages; and they may have different sizes from stage to stage. The individual mill stages can be replaced as units. Alternatively, the rotor discs and stator discs which are rotationally symmetric can be replaced individually. They can have different axial cross sections, containing a single bend or multiple bends. The processing pressure for the material being pulverized which is passed through the serpentine pulverization gap system can be set accurately based on the rotational speed (rpm), so that microorganisms are recovered without the hyaloplasm leaking out or being worked into (i.e. intermixing with or being forced into intercalation with) the other materials.

Replaceable liner for the discharge assembly of a rotary grinding mill or the like is disclosed, in the preferred embodiment, as including first and second, self-supporting box members. The first box member includes closed sides, bottom, and second end, and includes an open top and first end. The second box member includes closed sides, top, and bottom, and includes open ends. When the grate is removed from the first discharge casting, the second box member can be inserted within the first discharge casting and moved into the second and third discharge castings. Then the first box member can be placed within the first discharge casting. Thus, when the grate is attached to the first discharge casting, the first and second box members will be captured within the first and second discharge castings. Reinforcing members are embedded in the box members for retaining their shape. Furthermore, the angle between the inside surfaces of the top and sides of the box members is perpendicular to increase the volume of the ground material path and for increasing wear.

Controlling the amount of material which is present in a grinding chamber with grinding members of a tubular grinding mill which is divided into a plurality of successively arranged grinding compartments and material reservoir compartments which are in communication through openings which are not large enough to permit the passage of the grinding members from the grinding compartment to the material reservoir compartment by rotating the tubular grinding mill to cause the grinding members to grind the material and to move the ground particles into the material reservoir compartment, and during rotation removing a quantity of material from each material reservoir compartment and delivering a selected portion of the removed quantity to the next adjacent compartment which is downstream thereof. The quantity removed from the material reservoir compartment depends upon the arrangement of the rotatable radially extending scoop which forms a trough or shovel of partial segmental form which is adapted to engage and move through the material during each rotation of the drum to lift a selected quantity of the material upwardly and then to dump it onto a deflector plate so that it moves to the next adjacent downstream compartment. The quantity of material which is removed by one or more scoops is controlled by setting the individual rotative position of the scoop shovels so that they pick up either a greater or lesser quantity of material during each rotation, by adjusting the length of the scoop shovels so that the quantity is varied or by adjusting the amount of material which is either delivered to the next adjacent compartment or backwardly into the material reservoir compartment for recycling.
