    摘要: The present invention provides an improved process for preparing modafinil, whereby it may be isolated in high purity by a single crystallization. The process produces modafinil free of sulphone products of over-oxidation and other byproducts. The invention further provides new crystalline Forms II-VI of modafinil and processes for preparing them. Each of the new forms is differentiated by a unique powder X-ray diffraction pattern. The invention further provides pharmaceutical compositions containing novel modafinil Forms II-IV and VI.

    摘要: An electrophotographic toner containing a specific compound as the charge control agent is described. The electrophotographic toner according to the present invention have a sharper distribution of charge and better moisture resistance and charge durability than those of a toner wherein a conventional charge control agent is used. Therefore it can provide an image having a very high gradation and has a very high capability of repeatedly forming an image. Since the charge control agent, as such, is essentially colorless, a colorant can freely be selected according to a hue required of a color toner and the toner is not detrimental to the hue inherent in a dye and a pigment. The charge control agent is highly safe to environment.

    摘要: A process for purifying a halogenated aromatic sulfone or ketone compound comprises contacting the compound with a mixture containing a solvent having a normal boiling point less than about 225.degree. C. and water to form a second mixture, heating the second mixture at a temperature sufficient to substantially dissolve the halogenated compound to form a third mixture, cooling the third mixture to purify and recrystallize the compound, and recovering the purified, recrystallized compound. A second embodiment of the invention comprises repeating the purification process steps at least once to further purify the halogenated aromatic sulfone or ketone compound.

    摘要: A process for the liquid phase adsorptive separation of 4,4'-dichlorodiphenylsulfone (4,4'-DCDPS) from crystallization residue feed mixture also containing other DCDPS isomers. The feed is contacted with an X or Y type zeolite, substituted with a cation of a Group IA or IIA metal or ammonium. The other isomers are selectively adsorbed to the substantial exclusion of 4,4'-DCDPS. The 4,4'-DCDPS is recovered in high purity by fractionating the raffinate to recover the desorbent, aliphatic alcohols having 4-8 carbon atoms either used alone or diluted with an aromatic compound.

    摘要: A new process for the optical resolution of racemic mixtures of .alpha.-naphthyl-propionic acids of formula ##STR1## This process comprises reacting a racemic mixture of a compound of formula ##STR2## with an optically active substance of formula R.sub.4 --NH.sub.2 (III), said substance being a .beta.-aminoalcohol, thus forming a pair of diastereoisomeric amides which are resolved into the single diastereoisomers by fractional crystallization. The obtained single diastereoisomeric amide is then hydrolyzed to give the desired optically active .alpha.-naphthyl-propionic acid of formula ##STR3## In the above compound I.fwdarw.III and VI, R.sub.1 is (C.sub.1-6)alkyl, R.sub.2 stands for hydrogen, halogen, mercapto, (C.sub.1-6)alkylthio, phenylthio, benzylthio, (C.sub.1-6)alkylsulfonyl, benzenesulfonyl, benzenesulfonyl substituted by halogen or (C.sub.1-4)alkyl, R.sub.3 is a reactive group and R.sub.4 is the residue of a primary or secondary alcohol.
