Abstract: A method for thermal management for an aircraft includes extracting a flow of compressed fluid from a compressor section of a propulsion system. The flow of compressed fluid is passed through an anti-ice system. The flow of compressed fluid flows from the anti-ice system to a turbine. The flow of compressed fluid is expanded across the turbine. The expanded flow of compressed fluid then flows to thermal communication with a thermal load.

Abstract: A method and system for bleed flow power generation is provided. The engine includes a core flowpath formed by a compressor section, a heat addition system, and an expansion section in serial flow arrangement. A bleed circuit is extended from the core flowpath to extract a portion of compressed fluid from the core flowpath. The method and system include bleeding compressed fluid through a bleed circuit extended in fluid communication from the core flowpath of the engine; flowing the compressed fluid through the bleed circuit to a turbine rotor positioned at the bleed circuit; extracting, via the turbine rotor, energy from the flow of compressed fluid across the turbine rotor; and receiving energy at an electric machine operably coupled to the turbine rotor.

Abstract: Provided are fluid exchange apparatuses and methods of exchanging fluids between streams. Exemplary fluid exchange apparatus includes a first interleaved pathway with a plurality of first passages, and a second interleaved pathway with a plurality of second passages, in which the plurality of first passages and the plurality of second passages interleave with one another. Exemplary methods include directing a first fluid through a first interleaved pathway of a fluid exchange apparatus and directing a second fluid through a second interleaved pathway of a fluid exchange apparatus. The first fluid may flow from an upstream portion of a first duct into the first interleaved pathway and may discharge into a downstream portion of the second duct. The second fluid may flow from an upstream portion of the second duct into the second interleaved pathway and may discharge into a downstream portion of the first duct.

Abstract: A system for energy conversion is provided including a propulsion system, a fuel circuit, a combustion device and turbine separate from the propulsion system, and a load device. A fuel flow control device separates a flow of fuel from the fuel tank into a first portion of fuel and a second portion of fuel. A fuel circuit is configured to provide the first portion of fuel to a heat addition system at the propulsion system. A combustion device receives a flow of oxidizer from a compressor section of the propulsion system via a fluid circuit. The fuel circuit provides the second portion of fuel to the combustion device. The fluid circuit flows combustion gases to the turbine and the propulsion system. The load device is operably coupled to the turbine to receive an output torque via expansion of the combustion gases through the turbine.

Abstract: A heat transfer system includes a heat exchanger located at least partially within a coolant flowpath. The heat exchanger defines at least in part a first flowpath and a second flowpath, the first flowpath configured to be in fluid communication with the coolant flowpath, and the second flowpath configured to receive a flow of a motive fluid. The heat transfer system further includes a throttling device that is in fluid communication with the second flowpath of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger receives at least a portion of the flow of the motive fluid from the heat exchanger. The throttling device is also in fluid communication with the coolant flowpath at a location upstream of the heat exchanger for providing the flow of motive fluid to the coolant flowpath at the location upstream of the heat exchanger.
