Abstract: Systems, methods, and media for providing a multipurpose remote control are provided. In some implementations, a system for controlling a media device is provided, the system comprising: a hardware processor connected to a touch sensor, a directional input region, and a motion sensor, wherein the hardware processor is configured to: detect that the touch sensor is activated for a predetermined period of time; and upon detecting that the touch sensor has been activated for the predetermined period of time, switching from a first mode to a second mode, wherein: the first mode comprises controlling a highlighted region displayed on the media device in response to an input provided on the directional input region and selecting an item corresponding to the highlighted region in response to depression of the touch sensor; and the second mode comprises controlling a position of a cursor displayed on the media device in response to an output of the motion sensor, selecting an item corresponding to the position of the cursor in response to depression of the touch sensor, and inhibiting the display of the highlighted region.

Abstract: This application is directed to changing a TV operating mode based on a potential relationship among viewers of a connected TV. In some implementations, a method includes: determining viewer identities and identifying the potential relationship among the viewers or a subset of the viewers; in accordance with a determination that the potential relationship allows the viewers to share private information, placing or maintaining the connected TV in or into a first operating mode that is unrelated to media content being displayed and allows personal information to be displayed on the connected TV; and in accordance with a determination that the potential relationship does not allow the viewers to share private information, placing or maintaining the connected TV in or into a second operating mode that is unrelated to the media content and does not allow personal information to be displayed on the connected TV.

Abstract: This document describes techniques and systems for reducing a state based on sensor data from an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and radar. The techniques and systems use inertial sensor data from an IMU as well as radar data to reduce states of a user equipment, such as power, access, and information states. These states represent power used, an amount of access permitted, or an amount of information provided by the user equipment. The techniques manage the user equipment's states to correspond to a user's engagement with the user equipment, which can save power, reduce unwarranted access, and reduce an amount of information provided when the user is not engaged with the user equipment, thereby protecting the user's privacy.

Abstract: Example embodiments include an example method that involves detecting, via a gesture-detection sensor of a head-mountable device (HMD), a first gesture in a buttonless-touch region. The buttonless-touch region is located behind an ear of a wearer of the HMD. The method also includes activating a voice interface responsive to detecting the first gesture and, while the voice interface is activated, receiving an audio input signal via a microphone. The method further includes detecting, via the gesture-detection sensor, a second gesture in the buttonless-touch region and, responsive to detecting the second gesture, deactivating the voice interface. The method still further includes processing the audio input signal to determine a voice command having a start-point corresponding to the detected first gesture and an end-point corresponding to the detected second gesture.
