摘要: A radiation thermometer utilizing an off-focus telecentric lens arrangement in chemical vapor deposition reactors. An object assembly of one or more optical components is positioned at a distance equal to its focal length from an aperture stop. The aperture stop is dimensioned so that the chief rays are substantially parallel with the optical axis of the object assembly, and so that the rays that pass through the aperture stop define a narrow solid angle about the chief rays. The off-focus telecentric arrangement thus configured is focused at infinity, but is utilized to capture radiation from a relatively proximate target (e.g., within a couple meters) that is out of focus. The capture of collimated radiation from the target diminishes the contribution of stray radiation, particularly with targets having a highly specular surface.

摘要: An imaging member is disclosed having a surface layer comprising a heat-sensitive material whose surface compatibility to printing agents, such as toners and inks, can be substantially reversed in response to small changes in temperature. The imaging member is suitable for use in lithographic and printing applications, permitting reversible switching between compatibility states of printing agents, such as between hydrophilic and hydrophobic states or oleophilic and oleophobic states, and enabling rapid production of images on a recording medium. The heat-sensitive material comprises an acrylamide polymer and a silicon material.

摘要: A charged-particle beam control system includes a plurality of external magnets that generate an axially-varying longitudinal magnetic (AVLM)/axially-varying quadrupole magnetic (AVQM) field. A plurality of external electrode geometries generates an axially-varying longitudinal electrostatic (AVLE)/axially-varying quadrupole electrostatic (AVQE) field. The external electrode geometries and magnets control and confine a charged-particle beam of elliptic cross-section.

摘要: An embodiment is a method and apparatus to meter ink for electrographic printing. An ink loading mechanism having an anilox roller fills ink from an ink supply into cells in the anilox roller having a plurality of valleys and lands that form the cells. The ink loading mechanism causes the valleys to be full or nearly full with the ink. The anilox roller rotates in a first direction. A blanket roller rotationally engaged with the anilox roller pulls the ink out of the cells and causes the valleys to be partially filled. The blanket roller rotates in a second direction. A first cleaning blade cleans tops of the lands of the cells.Another embodiment is a method and apparatus to meter ink for electrographic printing. An ink loading mechanism having an anilox roller fills ink from an ink supply into cells in the anilox roller having a plurality of valleys and lands forming the cells. The ink loading mechanism causes the valleys to be full or nearly full with the ink. The anilox roller rotates in a first direction. A soft blade positioned slightly below surface of the lands removes ink from the cells and causes the valleys the partially filled as the anilox roller rotates. A hard blade positioned at the surface of the lands to clean residue of ink on the surface of the lands as the anilox roller rotates.

摘要: The present invention is directed to novel compositions of bio-active compounds comprising 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more compounds selected from the group of amino acids, alkaloids, glycosides, volatile oils, saponins, sapogenins, mannans, flavonoids, fatty acids, vitamins and provitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates. Preferably, the novel compositions of bio-active compounds include 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more amino acids selected from the group consisting of arginine, aspartate, threonine, serine, glutamate, proline, glycine, alanine, cysteine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, ornithine, proline, lysine, histidine, and gamma-aminobutyrate. The composition of bio-active compounds preferably include between about ten percent and about seventy percent of 4-hydroxyisoleucine and between about twenty percent and about forty percent of other amino acids. The bio-active compounds of the novel composition of the present invention may be derived, isolated, and/or extracted from Fenugreek seeds. A preferred method for extracting the bio-active compounds from Fenugreek seeds includes the steps of: (1) providing a plurality of Fenugreek seeds; (2) preparing the Fenugreek seeds; and (3) extracting a novel composition of bio-active compounds from the Fenugreek seeds, which include a preliminary extraction step and a secondary extraction step. The compositions of bio-active compounds have been found to be helpful in restoring healthy energy balance in humans and animals, aiding in weight management efforts, and for balancing blood sugar levels by way of assisting the body to make more efficient use of existing (i.e., endogenous) insulin.

摘要: An efficient system and method for reliably identifying guidelines, ruled lines, and the like, in images of text, and distinguishing those portions of such lines which touch or intersect character strokes in the image. The system provides for removal of guideline segments between character strokes without deleting character strokes. The system operates effectively on both machine printed and hand formed text. An image of text has most characters separated for more effective subsequent OCR processing, despite the presence of guidelines connecting the characters.

摘要: A type IV collagen polynucleotide molecule, COL4A6, encoding .alpha.6(IV) polypeptide molecule, is identified on the X chromosome and expressed particularly in basement membranes. Genetic alteration of COL4A6 is associated with Alport's syndrome, a disease of basement membranes. Assays which detect an alteration of collagen .alpha.6(IV), or the polynucleotide molecules encoding it, are useful in determining pathologies associated with Alport's syndrome.
