摘要: An optical modulator using a thin plate including a portion having 20 μm or less thickness, capable of selecting a specific polarized wave from a light wave which propagates in an optical waveguide in the modulator without reduced productivity. The modulator includes an X-cut or Y-cut thin plate of a material having an electrooptic effect; an optical waveguide formed in a top or bottom surface of the plate; and a control electrode on the top surface of the plate to modulate light which propagates in the waveguide. An attenuating means which absorbs light having a specific polarization plane of a light wave which propagates in the waveguide is disposed in the vicinity of the waveguide. The attenuating means includes light absorbing members disposed at a gap L which is 0.5 to 2 times the mode-field diameter of the light wave which propagates in the waveguide with the waveguide interposed therebetween.

摘要: The present invention is directed to provide a light modulation device capable of not only restricting the faint light propagating in the adhesive layer from being re-incident on the thin substrate but also increasing an adhesive strength of the thin substrate and the supplementing plate. The invention is characterized in a light modulation device having a thin substrate 1 made of material with an electro-optical effect and with a thickness of below 20 μm; an optical waveguide 2 formed on a surface of the thin substrate or the other surface thereof; and a modulation electrode 3 formed on the surface of the thin substrate and for modulating light passing through the optical waveguide, comprising: a supplementing plate 5 adapted to be bonded to the thin substrate via an adhesive layer 4, wherein a bonding surface of the supplementing plate is formed as a rough surface 10 relative to a bonding surface of the thin substrate. A roughness of the rough surface is preferred to be over 1/10 of a wavelength of faint light propagating in the adhesive layer.

摘要: A groove for a separate liquid chamber opening is provided in the vicinity of a location in a first separate liquid chamber to which a cantilever element is fixed and the groove extends overall in a vertical direction of the separate liquid chamber. The flow resistance of flow across the cantilever element from the upper side to the lower side of the separate liquid chamber through the opening is sufficiently small compared to the flow resistance of flow through the other small gap. Therefore, the ink flow from a common liquid chamber to the lower side of the cantilever element in each separate liquid chamber, which is caused with every ink ejection, passes through substantially two separate liquid chamber openings. As a result, the stagnation of ink flow in the first separate liquid chamber is reduced and the bubbles are smoothly flushed out.

摘要: There is provided an optical control element in which non-guided light is prevented from entering into an optical waveguide and which is excellent in optical properties, such as optical modulation properties.a media processor, such as a CD publisher, having a function as a media library. An optical control element includes: a substrate formed of a material having an electro-optical effect; and an optical waveguide formed on a top or bottom surface of the substrate. The optical waveguide has a modulation region b (s) and non-modulation regions a and c along the propagating direction of a light wave propagating through the optical waveguide. In the case when the modulation region is configured to include a single optical waveguide, propagation constants β0 to β3 of optical waveguides in the modulation region and the non-modulation region adjacent to each other are set to different values in the modulation region and the non-modulation region. In the case when the modulation region is configured to include a plurality of optical waveguides, a propagation constant of at least one of the optical waveguides in the modulation region is set to a value different from that in the non-modulation region.
