    Abstract: A reversible polarity fiber optic connector includes an outer housing including a polarity key for coupling the outer housing to a fiber optic receptacle in only one orientation. A ferrule assembly is received in the outer housing in a first position corresponding to a first polarity of the fiber optic connector and in a second position corresponding to a second polarity of the fiber optic connector. The ferrule assembly forms an optical connection with the fiber optic receptacle. A boot assembly is releasably connected to the outer housing to enable the ferrule assembly to be inserted into and removed from the outer housing. The boot assembly includes a rotor rotatable between locked and release positions. The rotor includes a blocking portion to block disconnection of the boot assembly with the outer housing in the locked position and to permit disconnection of the boot assembly with the outer housing in the release position.

    Abstract: A multiple push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and a housing having a distal end in a connection direction configured to hold the ferrule. The housing further includes a pair of proximal apertures and at least one proximal groove. A backpost has a distal end that urges the ferrule toward the distal end of the housing and a proximal end configured to receive a crimp ring. The backpost includes a pair of proximally extending latch arms that reverse latch in the proximal apertures of the housing. To strengthen the connector in side-loading environments, the backpost further includes a reinforcing rib that is received in the housing proximal groove. In a further aspect, the proximal end of the backpost may include a neck with an approximately curved side profile that, following crimping with a stepped crimp ring, results in an angled crimp.

    Abstract: A multi-fiber, fiber optic connector is interchangeable between a male connector and a female connector by including a pin retainer having a releasable retention device configured to lock the pins in place within the retainer. The retention device may be opened, for example, with a release tool, to free the retention pins for removal of the pins.     Abstract: An in-line dust shutter formed as part an adapter. A hinged dust shutter assembly is secured to an adapter wall. A shutter plate covers an opening formed at either end of the adapter to prevent debris from entering the adapter and distorting the light signal between opposing fiber optic connectors. The shutter plate extends at angle alpha from a rotational axis. The shutter plate is biased closed by a bias spring place about a pin of the rotational axis.

    Abstract: A multiple fiber push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and including a stepped portion extending from at least one pair of opposing exterior surfaces of the ferrule. A one-piece housing-backpost is provided having a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. The one-piece housing-backpost is configured to receive a ferrule spring and the ferrule from the distal end. The housing-backpost includes at least one resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion extending from a sidewall to engage the corresponding stepped portion of the ferrule. The resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion is configured to deform towards the housing-backpost interior sidewall as the ferrule is inserted from the distal end and to extend outward against the stepped portion of the ferrule when the ferrule is seated in the housing-backpost to maintain the ferrule in the housing-backpost.
