This heated region is moved by causing the recording layer and the laser beam to move relative to each other. The laser beam has a cross section elongated in the direction in which the heated region is moved.

In order to obtain a desired speed, a duty ratio of a pulse for applying electricity to a motor is controlled from a pulse which corresponds to the rotation of the motor being operated and a pulse width corresponding to the rotation of the motor when it is driven at a desired speed.
