摘要： An image forming apparatus in which a visible image is transferred to a transfer material includes a pre-transfer exposing unit that makes only a portion of a latent image carrier that corresponds to a leading edge of the transfer material expose, and a transfer-bias applying unit that applies a bias for transferring the visible image. The transfer-bias applying unit starts applying the bias to the transfer material, at least step-by-step, when a predetermined time is passed from a point of time at which the leading edge of the transfer material comes into a contact with the latent image carrier by controlling the pre-transfer exposing unit and a bias applying timing of the transfer-bias applying unit.

摘要： Aiming to suitably balance, when backing up data to a magnetic tape, search time and writing/reading performance depending on the purpose of the backup, provided is a disk array apparatus including a disk device having hard disks, a magnetic tape device including a magnetic tape to which data to be backed up is written, and a control unit performing writing and reading processings of data between the disk device and the magnetic tape device. The control unit includes an FM (file mark) interval managing unit which receives a purpose of use when backing up the data on the magnetic tape, and from FM intervals which is held in association with the purpose of use thus received and which indicates an interval of recording FMs on the magnetic tape, acquires an FM interval corresponding to the purpose of use thus received, and transmits the acquired FM interval to the control unit.

摘要： An image processing apparatus combines a background image, handwritten image, and a standard image. A reference image acquired by increasing the luminance value of the background image and the standard image is printed on a recording sheet. A recording sheet is read after being filled in, and a region whose luminance value is lower than a predetermined threshold value and a region indicated by standard image mask data are extracted. The extracted regions are combined with the background image and printed. In particular, the standard image mask data indicates a region in the standard image which is easily affected by a background color of a paper, so that color adjustment is performed on the region in the extracted image which is indicated by the mask data. As a result, the region in the standard image is prevented from being affected by the background color of the recording sheet in the combined result, and the images can be combined and printed according to the original color of the standard image.

The printer transmits information indicative of its capabilities to the digital camera and the digital camera incorporates the transmitted printer capability information in a print settings menu. The capability information has information relating to the printer capabilities and information indicative of a default setting. The capabilities of the printer are incorporated in the print settings menu together with the default setting. A desired printing condition can be set selectively at the digital camera using the print settings menu in which the capability information has been incorporated.

摘要： An image forming apparatus including a cleaning device for removing toner, paper dust and other impurities left on an image carrier after image transfer with a cleaning member is disclosed. The cleaning member contacts the surface of the image carrier with variable pressure and remains, about the time when the image carrier stops moving after image formation, in contact with the surface with pressure lower than pressure capable of scrapping off the impurities. Before movement for image formation, the image carrier is driven in a reverse direction opposite to a forward direction assigned to image formation, stopped, and again moved in the forward direction and then in the reverse direction at least one time.

摘要： A transfer-conveyance device for transferring a visible image on an image bearing member in an image forming apparatus onto a transfer sheet and to convey the transfer sheet. The transfer-conveyance device includes a contact member that contacts the image bearing member, a bias applying device to apply a transfer bias to the contact member, a resistance detecting device to detect a resistance of the contact member, and a transfer bias control device to determine an amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member and control the transfer bias. The transfer bias is controlled on the basis of the amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member. A method of controlling a transfer bias in an image forming apparatus includes the steps of applying the transfer bias to a contact member contacting an image bearing member to transfer an image on the image bearing member onto a transfer sheet, determining an amount of variation in a resistance of the transfer member, and controlling the transfer bias on the basis of the amount of variation in the resistance of the contact member.

摘要： A conveying member for conveying a recording medium carrying a toner image transferred thereto from an image carrier, an image transferring device including the conveying member, and an image forming apparatus including the image transferring device are disclosed. The conveying member has its surface resistivity so regulated as to prevent toner from being scattered on a recording medium. Also, the range of the surface resistivity or the relation between the surface resistivities of front and rear layers constituting the conveying members is so selected as to insure the conveyance of the recording medium and obviate defective images ascribable to defective image transfer.
