A dental hygiene apparatus for enabling a flossing of teeth. The apparatus can include a dispensing member and an accumulating member. The dispensing and accumulating members can each comprise a ring with an aperture for receiving a finger. Activating switches can selectively enable a dispensing of dental floss from the dispensing member and a retraction of dental floss relative to the accumulating member. A bobbin within the accumulating member can be rotated by a coil spring that can be rewound. The apertures in the rings can be varied. A floss retaining member can alternatively be retained by a ring, an opposed hook arrangement, or any other arrangement coupled to the dispensing member. Dental floss can be dispensed from a distal end of a post. The dental hygiene apparatus can further include as part of a unified system a finger shield arrangement, which can comprise first and second tubular members.
Abstract:
The brushhead/handle interface includes a brushhead assembly (20) which has a brush member (26) for cleaning teeth. A driveshaft (14) extends from a handle portion (12) of the toothbrush (10), which is driven in an oscillating manner through a selected rotational angle. The driveshaft includes one or more contact regions (49). The coupling member includes an interface portion or portions (46) which are forced against the contact regions of the driveshaft by a single spring member when the driveshaft is inserted into the coupling member. The single spring (34) exerts a sufficient force on the interface portions of the coupling member against the contact regions of the driveshaft to produce both a reliable torque transfer between the driveshaft and the brushhead assembly and to maintain axial retention of the brushhead assembly on the driveshaft during operation of the toothbrush.

A dental wedge for use in a dental medical treatment and restoration of hollow spaces associated with caries between neighboring teeth. The dental wedge has a triangular cross-section and a free end running out to a rounded tip. The dental wedge (1) is bent upwardly like a saber. The base face (3) and the side faces (4) of the dental wedge (1) are arched concavely inwardly. The impact edges (5) of the base face (3) and of the side faces (4) of the dental wedge (1) are rounded. The dental wedge (1) exhibits a first, longer wedge section (1a) and a second, shorter wedge section (1b), wherein the impact edges (5) between the base face (3) and the side faces (4) in the first wedge section (1a) are running parallel to each other. The impact edges (5) in the second wedge section (1b) run toward each other toward the free upwardly bent tip (2) of the dental wedge (1).

A color coded instrument has a colored resin cone connected at one end of a handle to provide a means to visually identify the instrument. The working tip of the instrument extends from the cone. The cone provides a sanity, non-flexible, impermeable and sterile connection between the metal handle and working tip.
Abstract:
A loop is formed by a bow having across one side a strip or blade. The bow has flexure and memory. The flexure and memory of the bow are imparted to the strip, enabling the strip to be either taut or loose, depending on the pressure exerted by the operator upon the bow. The bow is held and manipulated by the operator with the thumb and finger. The strip is positioned under tension. A holder for the device allows additional variability in the angle of attack of the strip, and facilitates quick and easy interchange of the strips. A holder avoids insertion of fingers far back in the mouth, where working space is limited.

Self-ligating orthodontic brackets include a marking system for identifying which tooth or subset of teeth a specific bracket within a set of non-identical brackets pertains and/or for assisting in aligning a bracket on a tooth. The bracket includes a temporarily visible mark that is visible during placement of the bracket onto a tooth but which does not remain visible during long term use of the orthodontic bracket to straighten teeth. The marking may be removable or it may be hidden during use of the bracket to straighten teeth. The orthodontic brackets are advantageously included within a set or kit intended for placement onto the teeth of a patient. They advantageously include a ligation cover selectively movable between an open, non-ligating position relative to an arch wire slot in a bracket base and a closed, ligating position relative to the arch wire slot.

A support apparatus for supporting components of a dental material includes two individual bottles each capable of receiving therein a component which can be shaken. Each individual bottle has a coding associated therewith and a cover has cover regions with respective codings corresponding to the bottle coding. A mixing base has a pair of recesses each with individual coding corresponding to the coding of a respective one of the individual bottles, whereby each respective bottle has a respective cover region and a respective recess of the mixing base associated therewith and identifiable as associated therewith by virtue of the corresponding coding thereon. The individual bottles collectively comprise a bottle unit and are closeable by a common cover.

A floss comprising: a fiber substrate; and a uniform coating comprising a colorant, wherein the color of the coating is different than the color of the fiber substrate is disclosed. The floss is useful as an indicator floss.

A step-back eliminating tapered dental cutting instrument for improved root canal treatment and a method of root canal therapy in which the instrument includes a first tapered working portion having spiral-shaped cutting edges which define a first tapered angle, and a second tapered working portion having spiral-shaped cutting edges which define at least one second tapered angle. The second separate tapered angle may have a compound curve taper steeper at the distal tip of the instrument. The root canal therapy method which eliminates the step-back procedure includes the step of using a series of progressively increasing diameter dental cutting tools, each having a first tapered portion at one taper angle, and having a second tapered portion at another steeper angle, which is steeper than the first taper portion, and using each progressively larger diameter dental cutting tool to the same working depth of the previous tool so that a rapid decrease in diameter is achieved at the apical orifice of the root canal.
Abstract:
A tubular applicator handle having an applicator integrally formed on either end. The applicable integrally formed on either end may be a brush, foam pad, fuzzy ball or other similar or equivalent applicator, for applying a liquid, paste or powder. The applicator may be use in a method of coating a post hole with a dental material. The present invention has particular adaptability in the dental field for applying dental materials.
