    摘要: There is described a plug and air warp gauge which takes the form of an elongated vertically, reciprocated gauging head that is mechanically driven under the influence of a rotating cam. Coaxially within an annular head is positioned a plug which has a diameter such that it will pass through an unchoked neck of a bottle. The plug is attached to the lower end of a tube which is coaxially positioned within a larger tube. The larger tube is raised and lowered mechanically and when in its uppermost position, will support the plug-carrying tube. When the larger tube is lowered, the plug tube also is lowered. The lower end of the larger tube is in the form of an annular piston which will move downward within a cylinder that seats on the bottle finish. As the annular piston moves down, it will pressurize the inside of the bottle and the cylinder if the seal with the finish of the bottle is good. After the arrival of the larger tube at its lowest position, both the pressure generated in the bottle and cylinder and the position of the plug tube are observed for determining the presence or absence of a defective bottle.

    摘要: An inspection device for glass containers to check for bottom pushup height, more particularly, to check for those containers having a rejectably flat pushup or a rounded bottom and therefore unstable characteristics during handling and filling, the device being adaptable for incorporation into a multistation automatic container inspection apparatus. A probe shaft is positioned below the center of the container and mounted in an elevating apparatus to move the probe shaft upward into contact with the container. The design allows for relative downward movement between the probe and the elevating apparatus when the upward movement of the probe is restricted by the container before the elevating apparatus completes its upward travel. An open switch made of one contact point on the probe and a second on the elevating apparatus is set open a distance determined by the minimum allowable height of a container bottom pushup, and the level beyond that height to which the probe is set to travel, that distance then being the amount of allowable relative motion before the switch is closed. When the switch is closed, an electrical circuit is completed, activating an indicator device to signal that a defective container is in the device, or activating an automatic discharge mechanism to dispose of the container.

    摘要: An apparatus is hereby provided which will automatically sense the defective oversized or chipped threads on the top of glass container or bottle and eject the so impaired bottle from a line of such container or bottles being conveyed to the apparatus by a belt conveyor and let the unimpaired bottles pass from the apparatus ready for immediate use, filling and the safe application of closure caps. The line conveyor runs along one side of the apparatus and locates the bottles into star-wheel openings of the apparatus and through the engagement of these bottles with the turret of the apparatus; the turret is dragged and turned by the continuation of movement of the bottles upon the belt until the next bottle has been gathered by a succeeding star opening in the star-wheel turrent. This next bottle picks up the drive from the conveyor to allow the preceding bottle to be initially centered by a similarly internally threaded two-part clamp device and the turning of the bottle therein by a side friction engaging wall to orientate bottle so that the lead edge of the bottle thread enters the jaws first. Fractures are broken away from a fractured bottle thread preparatory to the thread inspection cycle. After the neck of the bottle is clamped, it is taken to the next station to receive a lift inflatable plunger bulb that is turned and lowered into the bottle neck, the bulb inflated, the bottle neck internally gripped, the clamp opened, the bottle lifted from the conveyor by the bulb rotated for the inspection of the thread by opposing sensing fingers of a microswitch sensing device and biased by a spring to close upon one another. The bottle is lifted and at the same time turned by the device between its opposing sensing fingers by a reversible air motor that drives a worm gear in an internally-threaded depending sleeve, both with threads of the same pitch and size of the bottle threads being inspected. Operating with the sensing fingers are adjustable operating members aligned with microswitches that will be activated upon the thread being oversize or undersize or upon a sensing finger dropping into a notch or a nick to signal and set up the apparatus for the release and ejection of that bottle at a selected station. The unimpaired bottle will be continued to another station where it can be ejected by any suitable means. An adjustable electric timer controls the lowering and lifting of the bottle inflatable lifting bulb and the extent of travel of bottle threads within the sensing fingers and the ejecting of the impaired bottle from the apparatus.
