Abstract:
A number of examples of insulated conductors having geometrically optimized shapes and form factors, that may be used in twisted-pair cables and other types of communication cable to enhance the performance of, and/or reduce the cost of manufacturing such cables.
Abstract:
A cable for use in a predetermined voltage class includes at least one conductor; at least one extruded insulating layer surrounding the conductor, the insulating layer being made from a non-crosslinked insulating material having at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least one dielectric liquid, the insulating layer having a thickness such as to provide a voltage gradient on the outer surface of the cable insulating layer not smaller than 1.0 kV/mm; and a protective element around the extruded insulating layer having a thickness and mechanical properties selected to provide a predetermined impact resistance capability, the protective element having at least one expanded polymeric layer, the thickness being sufficient to prevent detectable insulating layer damage upon impact of at least 25 J energy. The insulating layer thickness and the protective element thickness can be selected in combination to minimize the overall cable weight while preventing detectable insulating layer damage upon impact of at least 25 J energy.
Abstract:
An electrical power cable with a foamed, compressible, semiconductive insulation shield which serves as both a cushioning layer and an electrical shield.
Abstract:
A device for damping vibrations suffered by a cable and intended to be integrated into a recess for the cable that has a larger cross- section than the cross-section of the cable. The device has at least two tips with tubular cross-sections that are attached to the surface of the cable and a flexible portion connecting the tips together and extending to the interior wall of the recess.
Abstract:
A cable connector assembly includes a connector and a cable, the cable including plural core wires arranged in an upper and a lower rows, wherein several pairs of high-speed signal lines, a pair of low-speed signal lines, a power signal line, and a spare signal line are located in the upper row, and other pairs of high-speed signal lines, a detection signal line, a power supply line, another spare signal line, and another power signal line are located in the lower row.
Abstract:
A method of using a down-hole cable apparatus includes placing the down-hole cable apparatus in an operational position. The down-hole cable apparatus includes a metal tube, at least one conductor positioned within the metal tube, an armor shell positioned exterior of the metal tube and the at least one conductor, and a polymer material abutting the metal tube. The polymer material has at least one additive andremains substantially inert during a recrystallization process. The down-hole cable apparatus is subjected to an operational catalyst, during which time the polymer material having the at least one additive remains substantially inert. The inertia prevents linear separation of at least one of the at least one conductor and the armor shell from the metal.
Abstract:
A cable apparatus having an increased linear pullout resistance and related methods is disclosed. The apparatus includes a metal tube. At least one conductor is positioned within the metal tube. An armor shell is positioned exterior of the metal tube and the at least one conductor. A polymer material is abutting the metal tube, wherein the polymer material includes therein at least one additive, wherein the polymer material with the at least one additive remains substantially inert during a recrystallization process.
Abstract:
In an electrical cable of the type having an outer sheath enclosing a conductor assembly comprising a plurality of insulated conductors disposed within a binder, the binder having a crush resistance for protecting the insulated conductors, an improvement in which a strength enhancer is mixed within the conductor insulation such that the binder can be removed without decreasing a crush resistance of the electrical cable.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a twisted pair of insulated wires that comprises a first wire that has a first insulation. The first insulation includes at least one foamed section and at least one unfoamed section. A second wire has a second insulation. The second insulation includes at least one foamed section and at least one unfoamed section. The at least one foamed section of the first insulation is spaced from and not adjacent to the at least one foamed section of the second insulation.
