The gripping device comprises an elastomeric or polymeric material integrally molded to a gripping plate, the gripping plate including a raised traction section that extends above the elastomer and may form a traction chamber. The gripping device may be used with a removable cushion plate that is fittable within the traction chamber and/or in conjunction with a removable hospital plate that overlies and permits access to an injury to the hoof, include one or more clips for engagement with the front or side of the hoof, the clip(s) being integrally formed with the gripping plate or the elastomer, and include arcuate stiffening ribs and a toe calk.

Horse hoof protection is obtained by incorporating a synthetic organic resin such as a urethane resin in the volume defined by the horse hoof bottom wall, suitably covered with a web fixed to the hoof bottom wall that is adhered to said resin. The resin protection is suitably free flowing into place, conforms to the contours of the hoof bottom wall, and adheres to the wall when cured. The protection by the resin is resilient and softer than the hoof wall and acts to cushion the hoof against shock.

The novel device, in general, prevents the horse's hoof from winging in or paddling out in order that the hoof travels in a straight line, and, in addition, spreads shock evenly upon striking the contacting surface and taking pressure off the wall of the hoof. The gripping device has a flat top surface which faces towards a horse's hoof and a bottom surface opposite the top surface, the bottom surface having a raised portion for improved gripping, the device being positioned centrally with respect to the horse's hoof.

The invention involves a combination hoof pad and horseshoe which raises the horse's heel and at the same time supports the coffin bone. The pad is wedge-shaped to be higher at the heel and lower at the toe. An insert support is located on the bottom of the pad such that it presses upwardly from the ground line to give support to the center of the coffin bone. The shoe portion of the remedial pad and shoe combination is provided with high heels thus raising the hoof heel to relax the flexor tendons. Relaxing the flexor tendons reduces pull on the coffin bone.

A hoof boot includes a massive base for attachment of a horseshoe and a collar which is connected to the base and is glued laterally to the hoof of a horse via a textile covering lined inwardly of the collar. The base and the collar are made in form of molded part of plastic material. The collar is provided with several thin strips which serve as predetermined breaking points so as to divide the collar in several sections and to allow adjustment thereof to the configuration of the horse hoof. The attachment of the horseshoe to the base is accomplished with nails, split rivets or wood screws in such a manner that the horseshoe can be detached without removing the molded part which is glued to the horsehoof.

A method and apparatus for protecting the hooves of a horse from concussive forces are described. A pad manufactured of woven felt is fixedly secured between each of the horse's hooves and a horseshoe. The pad has a size and shape approximating that of the horseshoe, and has a preferred thickness of about 0.125-0.250 inches, a surface density of about 30.0-68.0 ounces/square yard, and a density of about 0.218-0.304 ounces/cubic inch. In a preferred embodiment, the pad is first attached to the horseshoe followed by attachment of the horseshoe and pad to the hoof. Any excess portions of the pad extending beyond the edges of the horseshoe are trimmed off.

A correctional pad for use on the hoof of an animal such as a horse or the like is disclosed comprising a resilient body member having a side wall with a bottom wall extending laterally therefrom. The body member is comprised of a material such as Neoprene or the like so that the side wall member may be adhesively secured to the side of the animal's hoof so that the bottom wall member will be selectively positioned beneath the hoof to alter the flight of the animal's foot. One of the embodiments is substantially straight and is L-shaped in cross-section. A further embodiment is also L-shaped in cross-section but it is curved along its length so as to conform to the curvature of the animal's hoof. The thickness of the bottom wall member may be increased by laminating additional thicknesses thereon.
