摘要： A method of forming an umbrella canopy having a substantially continuously aligned decorative pattern displayed thereon, wherein the canopy is of the type used on large, outdoor and/or recreational umbrellas. The method includes forming an elongated sheet of canopy material with the decorative pattern displayed along a continuous portion of the length thereof. The decorative pattern is defined by a plurality of substantially equivalent, successively disposed pattern segments, wherein adjacent ones of such pattern segments are inverted relative to one another. The canopy sections used to construct the final product of the umbrella canopy are formed by extending each of a plurality of bias cuts along the entire width of the sheet of canopy material and at predetermined angular orientations to a central longitudinal axis of the sheet. The separated canopy sections are then arranged into a substantially common orientation and interconnected to collectively correspond to an intended configuration of the umbrella canopy being formed.

The cover has eight generally triangular slits therein extending one from each corner of the octagon toward, but in spaced relation from, a center point, a point of each triangle at the inner end of the slit. The sides of each slit are sewn together to form a dart. The cover is tacked to an eight-rib frame, with each dart tacked adjacent a flexion point in a rib.

摘要： A garden umbrella employing an upper canopy extending from the top of the umbrella pole to the middle of long canopy ribs, and a lower outer canopy extending in a ring around the outer part of the umbrella and having long sleeves sewn across the canopy in a radial pattern for receiving a canopy rib in each sleeve. The canopy ribs are pivotally connected to a runner notch, while the other ends of the canopy ribs are received in the canopy sleeves. Stretcher ribs are pivotally connected between each canopy rib and a top ribholder secured at the top of the umbrella pole. The rib and runner notch configuration, together with the outer canopy, permit very easy opening and closing of the umbrella by movement of the runner notch between its upper, open umbrella position and its lower, closed umbrella position. The lower canopy comprises panels sewn together along the bottom of each rib such that a wind vent space is formed with the upper canopy which extends to the top of each rib. The lower canopy panels also include metal rods sewn therein at selected locations for maintaining the shape and handling of the canopy. Counterweights are provided in the canopy ribs to facilitate opening of the umbrella. Also, a strap is designed to wrap the lower canopy when the umbrella is closed.
