摘要： A method and system for communicating information over a wireless channel in a communication system including a coordinator and receivers, involves controlling channel access by dividing a contention-free period (CFP) into one or more schedules, wherein each schedule includes one or more periodical channel time blocks (CTBs) for wireless communication, reserving a CTB for reliable broadcast or multicast (ReBoM) communication of a data packet over the channel, transmitting the data packet from the coordinator over the channel during the reserved CTB, and receiving one or more acknowledgments for the data packet from one or more of the receivers. The data packet includes a header comprising ReBoM information indicating a multi-CTB ReBoM communication sequence for the data packet or a single-CTB ReBoM communication sequence for the data packet.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and a system for generating a block acknowledgment for aggregated MSDUs (A-MSDU) transmitted from a sender to a receiver over a wireless channel. Upon receiving the A-MSDU, the receiver generates a MSDU Block Acknowledgment (MSDU-BA) that includes an acknowledgment for each received MSDU. Based on the MSDU-BA, the sender selectively retransmits only the erroneous MSDU(s) to the receiver.

The status includes the availability of the second frequency band for communication between the first and second stations. One implementation involves a requesting wireless station directionally transmitting a request to a coordinator for access to a communication channel; the request packet includes a field indicating the length of the desired reservation period; and upon successfully receiving the request from the wireless station, the coordinator reserving a channel time period for data transmission by the requesting wireless station, and at least pseudo-omni-directionally broadcasting a packet to all wireless stations in the network indicating the reservation. All other stations refrain from contending the channel during the reserved channel time period.

One embodiment of the system includes a first wireless device; a second wireless device; and an access point that can communicate over high-rate and low-rate channels. One or more of the first and second wireless devices and the access point can include neighbor information on the wireless stations in the wireless network. One or more of the first and second wireless devices and the access point may be configured to transmit a frame in an attempt to establish a direct link over the first channel between the first and second stations. Before transmitting the frame, the one or more of the first and second wireless devices and the access point may determine whether a direct link can be established over the first channel between the first and second stations, based at least partly on the neighbor information. This scheme can significantly reduce time wasted for unsuccessful direct link setup attempts for the high-rate channel transmissions.

One embodiment of the system transmits partially compressed video data from a transmitter to a receiver over a wireless channel. The transmitter is configured to send a plurality of groups of data bits over a wireless channel. The data bits, in an uncompressed form, together form one or more displayable elements representing at least a portion of a video image. The plurality of groups have different degrees of significance to the quality of the video image. The plurality of groups include a first group of uncompressed data bits, and a second group of compressed data bits, wherein the first group has a higher degree of significance to the quality of the video image than the second group. The receiver is configured to receive the plurality of groups of data bits over the wireless channel. The system allows transmission of a large amount of video data over a wireless channel having a limited capacity or a varying condition.
