    摘要: A dryer rack for automatic film developing machines, which is remarkably simple in construction and easy to maintain, which is highly efficient, and which dries the film quickly, thoroughly and with remarkable freedom from blemishes.Gear driven transport rollers arranged in a staggered pattern carry the film through the rack along a sinuous path. The rollers are thinner, more closely spaced and more numerous than in conventional dryer racks. Low-pressure, high-volume fans blow air directly onto the rollers without using air distribution tubes. The rollers themselves form air jets which distribute the drying air flow advantageously over the film surfaces.This rack, with its numerous gear driven transport rollers, is powered by a series of large power transmitting gears positioned along the rack, from which power is tapped off by smaller diameter coaxial gears. The latter in turn drive clusters of the roller drive gears. This highly efficient and extremely smooth operating gear system makes practical the use of the desired large numbers of closely spaced thin transport rollers, without requiring excessive driving power and without causing uneven roller movement harmful to the photographic emulsion. This, in conjunction with the exceptionally favorable air flow patterns which prevail in this rack using thin, staggered rollers, produces exceptionally rapid and blemish-free film drying.

    摘要: Strips of photographic film are processed through a film developing machine which transports the film by means of rollers. Curling of the film around the rollers of the machine is avoided even though no separate leader is attached to the film.This is accomplished by first inserting one end of the film strip into a device which has an open slot defined by a pair of platens which face each other. At least one platen is heated and at least one platen has corrugations in its slot-defining surface. Provisions are made for responding to insertion of the strip into the slot to close the platens upon the inserted strip, and maintaining these platens so closed for a length of time sufficient to impress the platen corrugations into the film. The slot is then reopened, the strip is withdrawn, and inserted into the nip of the input rollers to the developing machine.Specific embodiments of the corrugating device are also taught.

    摘要: In an automatic film processing machine a special film guidance apparatus is mounted ahead of the first processing tank to determine the paths along which the various film strips are introduced into the processing machine. The film guidance apparatus has transport rollers forming at least one nip, in front of which there are vanes spaced apart across the width of the transport rollers. These vanes subdivide the space in front of the nip into several channels, with side walls formed by the vanes. Each individual vane can be flipped into or out of the path of the film as that film is introduced between the vanes, and then into the nip of the rollers, for conveyance to the first processing tank of the machine. The machine operator is quickly and easily able to adjust the widths of the film insertion channels to accommodate film strips of different widths, which may then be processed side-by-side through the automatic processing machine without risk of interference with each other or with machine operation. An auxiliary roller aids in unrolling the film strips from their conventional spiral configuration.

    摘要: The invention relates to the processing of photographic material such as photographic film which has a tendency to curl in roller type photographic processing equipment, without attaching a separate leader portion to the film. After removing the curl from an end portion of the film, it is processed in a roller type photographic processing equipment without curling around the transporting rollers.The invention also provides a method of making this leaderless processing possible. This is performed by deforming a portion of the photographic material so as to prevent the tendency to curl to allow positive selfleading through the roller type processing equipment. Another embodiment of the invention provides a one-piece, partially curled, photographic material wherein curl has been removed from a portion, thus making the film suitable for photographic processing equipment.Another embodiment provides an apparatus for preventing curl in a portion of photographic material.

    摘要: An improved gear system of greater efficiency having less bearing loading and less power requirement to rotate long gear trains. The system includes a plurality of large power gears serially mounted which receive rotative force from another power gear, the power gears positioned to turn respective power gear shafts. The power gear shaft transmits rotative forces to a drive gear which is smaller in diameter with respect to the power gear which drives it. The drive gear powers an individual satellite gear system of driven gears which drive a plurality of work producing satellite shafts. The large power gear in turn drive a downwardly positioned, similar, large power gear which in turn powers its own satellite gear train. In this manner the load of rotating the work producing shafts into a plurality of individual systems is broken up.

    摘要: A combination heat exchanger and blower unit suitable for connection into the breeching between a heater and the stack to admit hot flue gases into the unit. The flue gases enter a fan section wherein the hot flue gases and recirculated gases within the unit are accelerated by a fan. A helical coiled tube heat exchanger is positioned within the unit and is bombarded by the gases which are discharged by the fan. The turbulence created within the unit causes the heated gases to impact upon and to pass between the heat exchanger coils many times at high pressure. The repeated impacts of the heated gases upon the tube heat exchanger breaks down the boundary layer of stagnant gas surrounding the heat exchanger coils and results in greatly increased heat exchange efficiency.
