System, devices and methods are described that provide an integrated optical decombiner or optical combiner having both unamplified paths and amplified paths on which power monitoring and control may be located. A preferred multiplexing/demultiplexing optical path through the combiner/decombiner and a corresponding waveguide output/input is identified and optically coupled to a piece of fiber. Temperature control may be provided to tune an arrayed waveguide grating within the combiner/decombiner and minimize wavelength drift therein. Integrated power monitoring may be employed on one or more of the amplified waveguide paths to ensure that a preferred power level or range is maintained on an optical signal.

The computer peripheral includes: a USB connector 1 for connecting the computer peripheral to the host computer; a first circuit (FDD control IC 2) which directly receives the power supply from the host computer via the USB connector 1; and a second circuit (spindle motor driver 6) which receives the power supply from the computer via the first circuit. The first circuit includes a pull-up circuit 3 for maintaining a higher voltage level than that of the second circuit and a switch 32 for turning ON/OFF the pull-up circuit 3. The first circuit stops supplying the power supply from the first circuit to the second circuit via the switch 32 in the case where the first circuit receives a suspend signal from the host computer to become a standby mode.

The optical information recording medium includes a transparent substrate, at least a recording layer and a reflective layer on or above the substrate and is capable of performing at least one of recording, erasing and rewriting information by irradiating and scanning with focused light to thereby form and/or erase recording marks on the recording layer. The recording layer contains an alloy and/or an intermetallic compound mainly containing Ga, Ge, Sb, and Te in a compositional ratio represented by the following formula: GaxGey(SbzTe1-z)1-x-y wherein x, y, and z each represent an atomic ratio of a positive real number less than 1 and satisfy the following conditions: 0.02≦x≦0.06, 0.01≦y≦0.06, 0.80≦z≦0.86, x≧y, and x+y≦0.1.
