The second common electrode has a first edge adjacent the one of the first common electrodes and a second edge opposite to the one of the first common electrode. A first pixel electrode is formed between two of the first common electrodes and extends in the same direction as the first common electrodes. A second pixel electrode overlaps the second common electrode, is connected to the first pixel electrode, and covers at least a portion of the first edge of the second common electrode.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device including a first substrate and a second substrate having a liquid crystal composition layer disposed therebetween, a black matrix formed on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate, and a video signal line formed between a face of the first substrate and a face of the liquid crystal composition layer. At least one pixel electrode is formed at each of pixels adjoining each other through the video signal line and fed with a selected video signal through the video signal line, and at least one counter electrode is fed with a counter voltage. An optical transmissivity of the liquid crystal composition layer is controlled by an electric field component which is generated between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode. One of the counter electrodes of the individual pixels is positioned at opposite sides of the video signal line, and the black matrix is formed over the video signal line. The black matrix has a widthwise contour which extends at least as far as the counter electrodes positioned adjacent to the opposite sides of the video signal line.

The twisting extent of the liquid crystal moles is controlled by an electric field component which is generated between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode. A spacing between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode arranged to oppose each other is larger than a width of at least one of the pixel electrode and the counter electrode and smaller than a spacing between the pixel electrode and the video signal line.

    摘要: The liquid crystal display device has a plurality of pixel elements, the optical transmissivity of which is varied by suitable electrical signals. The liquid crystal display device has electrodes which apply electric fields to a liquid crystal layer, the electric fields having components in a direction generally parallel to the liquid crystal layer. Each pixel element has at least one pixel electrode which extends in a common direction as signal electrodes and common electrodes which extend over several pixel elements. The common electrodes may be on the same side of the liquid crystal layer as the pixel and signal electrodes, or they may be on opposite sides. Each pixel may have two pixel electrodes with the signal electrode therebetween and there are then a pair of common electrodes with the pixel electrodes therebetween. The common electrodes may be common to adjacent pixel elements. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes may be separated by an insulating film.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device having suitable structures for avoiding the decline in the yield factor for production thereof by preventing signal lines formed therein from being disconnected. A liquid crystal display device has a pair of substrates confronting one another and being spaced by a liquid crystal layer and at least one first signal line, a first insulating film, at least one second signal line, and a second insulating film being formed above a surface of one of the pair of substrates. The at least one first signal line and the at least one second signal line are arranged so as to cross one another at a crossing region, where the at least one first signal line, the first insulating film, the at least one second signal line, and the second insulating film are disposed in this order from the surface of the one of the pair of the substrates. The second insulating film has a pair of openings piercing therethrough at both sides of the crossing region and a conductive layer is formed thereon. The conductive layer crosses over the at least one first signal line and electrically connected to the at least one second signal line via the pair of openings at both sides of the crossing region.
