摘要: A method for forming a coating layer is provided according to the invention. The method includes steps of assembling a die coater comprising a first die block (12), a second die block (14), and a plurality of fasteners (40) holding the first die block and the second die block together, wherein each of the plurality of fasteners provides a compression force between the first die block and the second die block, and the first die block and the second die block are constructed to provide an internal manifold (16) and a coating slot (18), and extruding a coating material through the internal manifold and the coating slot. The coating slot can be adjusted to provide a more uniform coating slot along the length of the coating slot by adjusting the compression force of the fasteners, utilizing an offset bracket (80), adjusting the die bolt locations, adjusting the die overhang, providing a non-uniform shim (30), or a combination thereof. A die coater is additionally described.

摘要: Methods and apparatus (40) to neutralize the charge on a moving web (42) by splitting the field present on the web (42). One portion of the field is removed by a grounded element (55a, 55) proximate to, and optionally contacting, one side of the web (42). Proximate the opposite side of the web, the apparatus includes an ion source (57a, 57b, 57c), which provides ions to the web (42) to neutralize the charge remaining on the web (42), and a second grounded element (50a, 50b, 50c) positioned between the ion source (57a, 57b,57c) and the web (42). The methods provide a web (42) that is net neutralized and is also dual-side or bipolar neutralized.

摘要: A low fringing film coating includes a transparent polymeric layer having a surface, and a plurality of projections extending away from the surface. The projections have a mean height of 0.05 to 1 μm and a mean distance between projections of 0.5 to 2 mm. The coating can be produced by coating a polymeric composition onto a substrate. The polymeric composition includes a polymeric material, a good solvent for the polymeric material and a poor solvent or the polymeric material. The solvents are at least partially evaporated to form a low fringing transparent polymeric layer.

摘要: A method of preparing a surface on a die coater to improve the uniformity of the coating layer on the substrate. A surface of the die block is machined. The die block is then positioned on a measuring surface in a free state so that the machined surface being measured is substantially vertical. The vertical orientation of the die block substantially removes the effect of gravity on any residual stress during measuring. The steps of machining, positioning, and measuring the die block are repeated until the desired total indicated run-out is achieved. The positioning step may also include interposing at least two point supports between the die block and the measuring surface. In another embodiment, the die blocks are positioned in a reference state or a production state for measuring.
