To increase the quality and quantity of the separation and hence save time and material, longish structures (7 or 8) like threads or bristles are provided at least over a partial section of the longitudinal extent of the hub (3) of the screw distributed around its circumference, yielding transversely to their longitudinal extent to the attack of coarser solids particles and centrifugally straightening more or less radially out from the hub and extending into the separation section (6) subject to the action of centrifugal force as the centrifuge operates.

    摘要: A three stage centrifuge especially adapted to the separation of oil, water, and solid particles in an emulsion. As an example, the centrifuge may be used to separate sediment and water from a petroleum product such as crude oil. The three stage centrifuge includes a rotatable bowl that spins the emulsion to separate the fluid oil and water into separate pools within the bowl. The solid particles are also moved radially outward within the rotatable bowl by centrifugal force. A conveyor auger contacts the solid particles and discharges the solids from the rotatable bowl through a solids discharge port. Oil discharge tubes contact the oil pool confined between oil baffle plates on the conveyor auger and allow the oil to be discharged from the rotatable bowl. Water weirs contact the water pool and allow the water to be discharged from the rotatable bowl.

    摘要: This invention relates to an improved particulate receiving chamber within a centrifugal separation device and more particularly within a decanter centrifuge. The improved receiving chamber reduces particle disintegration of the particulates which is particularly advantageous if the particulates are subjected to a further centrifugal separation step because particle disintegration compromises the clarification achievable by successive centrifugal separators. The preferred embodiment of the particulate receiving chamber includes a plurality of spray nozzles for spraying fluid in the chamber whereby the fluid absorbs the impact forces of the particulates which impact against surfaces within the chamber.

The conveyor (5) thus flows in said liquid phase which is utilized in that the one traditional radial bearing of the conveyor is replaced by a radial support bearing (22) which only during starting and stopping of the centrifuge cooperates with the conveyor (5) in order to prevent it from contacting the bowl (2). In operation, the conveyor is thus only supported in the radial direction at the one end, entailing that the flexural rigidity of the conveyor becomes less important to the maximum allowable number of revolutions of the centrifuge which may then be increased for a given centrifuge, thereby obtaining an improved separating effect.

A surface element free axial passage channel is defined between the inner rotor wall and the solid bowl drum extending at least 50% of the radial distance between the rotor wall and the drum. A baffle plate is mounted on the inner rotor at the wide end of the drum leaving an annular gap or passage between a compacting space and a sediment discharge which exhibits a radially inwardly directed sediment outlet channel(s). The separated liquid is drained through a liquid outlet channel(s) from the compacting space. The liquid outlet is mounted on the inner rotor.

    摘要: A method of separating solid particles from the liquid constituent of a slurry, containing solids having a "wide" particle size distribution, that is, a size distribution wherein the equivalent diameter of particles in the slurry ranges between at least 15 microns and 150 microns. The method uses a screen bowl centrifuge and comprises: (a) establishing a bed of solids on the screen section of the centrifuge whose maximum radial thickness is greater than 15 times the mean particle equivalent diameter of said solids in the slurry; (b) operating the scroll of the centrifuge at a speed within the range of 0.5 to 10% of the bowl speed; and (c) returning at least a portion of the solids contaminated centrate from the centrifuge to the interior of the screen section of the bowl so as to deposit the centrate on the solids passing over the screen section at or adjacent a region of maximum solids thickness.
