Abstract: This invention relates to a device for driving a drilling or percussion tool having a spindle that rotates with respect to a housing. One end of the spindle is adapted to fasten to a tool piece and the other end is connected to an oscillating percussion body movable in the housing by means of a guideway. A drive shaft rotates the tool spindle into rotation or actuates the percussion body via a transmission that is provided with means for converting the rotary motion of the drive shaft into an oscillatory motion of a drive member. The drive member is connected to the percussion body through an elastic member having a non-linear sping characteristic.

Abstract: A hand tool has a shifting gear unit containing an output drive shaft. The drive shaft can be coupled with different gears by a connecting device so that a coupled gear drives the shaft. The connecting device is displaced by a slide and the slide is, in turn, displaced by a rotatable handle. Drive cams on the handle seat in engagement recesses in the slide. The drive cams and engagement recesses are spaced equal distances apart, so that as the handle is rotated, the drive cams, one after the other, entrain the engagement recesses and move the slide.

Abstract: A safety clutch for a motor-driven hand tool breaks the rotational drive train when a working tool becomes seized in a receiving material. The safety clutch includes coupling members (25) positioned in a part (22) for transmitting rotational movement to the working tool. The coupling members (25) are radially displaceable within the part (22) between a first position rotatably connecting the part and a power take-off spindle (21) and a second position releasing the connection between the part and spindle. An annular inertial mass (28) rotates with and is rotatable relative to the part (22). The mass (28) has recesses (31) in its inner surface for receiving the coupling members (25) in the second position, and it has support surfaces for holding the coupling members (25) in connecting engagement in recesses (27) in the spindle in the first position.

Abstract: A hammer drill can be switched between combined rotary and impact operation and impact operation. An electropneumatic mechanism provides the impact force and includes a guide cylinder with a beveled gear wheel extending around the outside surface of the cylinder. The gear wheel is driven by a drive wheel. A coupling sleeve is mounted on the guide cylinder for rotation with it and is axially displaceable relative to the cylinder between a first position in meshed engagement with the gear wheel and a second position displaced out of meshed engagement. A switching device moves the coupling sleeve between the two positions. In the first position, the coupling sleeve rotates the guide cylinder, while in the second position the guide cylinder is locked against rotation. The switching device includes a control cam engaged within a groove extending in the circumferential direction of the outside surface of the guide cylinder. In the second position of the coupling sleeve, the control cam is moved inwardly relative to the cylinder into one of a plurality of detent openings formed in the base of the groove for locking the guide cylinder so that it does not perform any rotary movement.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a percussive tool having a piston and a ram slidably mounted within a cylinder which is axially displaceable. An air chamber is defined in front of the ram, and the cylinder has exhaust openings formed therein. With the cylinder in its retracted position, the exhaust openings communicate with the front air chamber so that the air cushion therein is vented during forward movement of the ram, and with the cylinder in its advanced position, the exhaust openings are closed to seal the air chamber so that the ram is limited in its rearward movements.

Abstract: A portable electric hammer drill incorporates an electric motor 12 disposed close to the handle 13 of the tool and with its axis of rotation at right angles to the axis of rotation of the drill bit holder 10, and a gear 15 on the motor shaft meshes with a first pinion 16 driving the holder in rotation. A second pinion 25 meshes with the first pinion 16 and drives the driving piston 30 of the mechanism for transmitting impacts to the holder. The axes of rotation of the holder 10, the first and second pinions and the gear 15 ;are coplanar, and the first and second pinions are on diametrically opposite sides of the said gear, the first pinion being nearer the handle. This arrangement enables the motor to be placed nearer the handle than if the first pinion were in direct mesh with the said gear, and thus improves the balance of the tool. The arrangement permits the diameters of the first and second pinions to be selected independently of each other.

Abstract: In a electropneumatic hammer, an air cushion is provided within the bore in a cylinder between a driving piston and a striking piston. As the driving piston reciprocates, through the medium of the air cushion, it causes the striking piston to move axially and impact against a tool in a tool carrier. Openings are provided in the cylinder which afford an air exhaust from that part of the bore forward of the rearward end of the striking piston, when it operates to hit against a tool in the tool carrier. However, if the tool is removed from its operating position within the tool carrier, the striking piston moves forwardly into the tool carrier and a radially expanding ring is arranged to engage the striking piston frictionally and prevent the continuation of the axial movement of the striking piston. When the striking piston moves forwardly and is secured by the ring, it moves past the openings in the cylinder so that the air cushion communicates with the openings and is no longer effective. The air cushion is reconstituted when the striking piston is released by inserting a tool into the operating position in the tool carrier.

Abstract: An electric hammer drill is constructed to provide both striking and rotating motions for a tool mounted in the drill. Further, the rotational motion is provided by a gear wheel which, in turn, is driven by a pinion. If only striking motion is to be transmitted to the tool, the gear wheel can be disengaged from the pinion and, if required, the gear wheel in its disengaged position can be locked against rotational movement. The gear wheel is normally biased into engagement with the pinion. An operating lever is positioned on the hammer drill for selecting the desired arrangement of the gear wheel.
