    摘要: A writing method suitable for practice with an apparatus having a rotary head assembly for the storage and retrieval of digital data on and from magnetic tape in cassette form or the like. The rotary head assembly is of the type having a rotary drum to which there are mounted a pair of magnetic read/write heads and a pair of magnetic monitor heads. The read/write heads alternately and overlappingly scan the magnetic tape for creating a series of slanting data tracks thereon. The monitor heads are spaced from the read/write heads not only circumferentially but also axially of the rotary drum for monitoring the data tracks being formed by the read/write heads after they have been overlapped by the subsequently formed tracks. The writing method is of particular utility in writing a block of user data over any selected target group of existing data tracks that have been written on the magnetic tape by another similar magnetic tape apparatus in which the axial distances between the read/write heads and the monitor heads may differ from those of the present apparatus. The block of user data is written over all but the first and last of the target group of existing data tracks, and dummy data is written over the first and the last.

    摘要: A helical scan tape apparatus including a first pair of magnetic heads having mutually different azimuth angles disposed on a peripheral face of a rotary drum at an angle interval of 180 degrees so as to oppose each other, a second pair of magnetic heads disposed on of the rotary drum so as to be perpendicular to a disposition direction of the first magnetic heads, a magnetic tape helically wound around the rotary drum so as to extend over an angle of 90 degrees, the tape being moved while the drum is controlled to rotate in synchronism with a reference signal, the first magnetic heads having a wider gap width than a track pitch of tracks recorded on the tape without providing a guard band for enabling azimuth recording of a data signal on the tracks, the data signal being recorded repeatedly into a particular recording area, wherein the first magnetic heads are used substantially for recording and the second magnetic heads are used substantially for reproduction and are positioned with a downward shift in the height direction of the drum equivalent to half of a scanning width of the second magnetic heads as compared with said first magnetic heads. Alternatively, the second magnetic heads may be disposed with a predetermine amount of shift so that an end of said second magnetic heads opposite to a tape traveling direction is located within a track recorded in advance by a predetermined value.

    摘要: Digital data is recorded on a slant track of a magnetic tape by a rotary head, in which the sampling frequency of the digital data can be changed in accordance with the nature of the digital data. The recording apparatus comprises a memory for writing the digital data in response to an input clock signal which is synchronized with the sampling frequency and reading the digital data therefrom in response to a system clock signal; and a circuit for converting the digital data read out from the memory into a data block having such a capacity that the data block can be recorded during one scan of the rotary head. Even when the data rate of the input digital signal is unclear, if the data rate lies within a range where the buffer memory does not overflow, the apparatus can continuously record the input digital signal. Thus, the apparatus can easily interface with an external computer.

    摘要: A thin film magnetic recording head is fabricated by forming a substrate from opposing ferrite blocks which have a ceramic member bonded between them. This structure is then diced to form a plurality of columns, wherein each column has a ferrite/ceramic combination. Each column represents a single channel in the completed head. A block of ceramic is then cut to match the columned structure and the two are bonded together. The bonded structure is then cut or ground until a head is formed, having ceramic disposed between each channel. A ferrite back-gap is then added to each channel, minimizing the reluctance of the flux path. The thin film is patterned on the head to optimize various channel configurations.
