摘要: A transceiver architecture for wireless base stations wherein a broadband radio frequency signal is carried between at least one tower-mounted unit and a ground-based unit via optical fibers, or other non-distortive media, in either digital or analog format. Each tower-mounted unit (for both reception and transmission) has an antenna, analog amplifier and an electro-optical converter. The ground unit has ultrafast data converters and digital frequency translators, as well as signal linearizers, to compensate for nonlinear distortion in the amplifiers and optical links in both directions. In one embodiment of the invention, at least one of the digital data converters, frequency translators, and linearizers includes superconducting elements mounted on a cryocooler.

摘要: An apparatus and method for enabling cost-effective duplex communication by diplexing one of down stream signals for frequency up-conversion in a hybrid fiber-radio system includes diplexing an unmodulated mode signal among beating signals between a master laser and an injection-locked slave laser and using the diplexed signal for down-conversion in upstream transmission, thereby eliminating the need for expensive high-frequency local oscillators for frequency conversion. Higher radio frequency signals can be generated using beating between basic modes and satellite modes such as FWM conjugates of the master laser and slave laser. Cost-effective systems, stabilization of a light source and improved transmission performance may be achieved by using a diplexer instead of an expensive high-frequency local oscillator.

摘要: The optical-fiber-based radio-frequency identification (RFID) system includes one or multiple RFID readers optically coupled to one or more transponders via respective one or more optical fiber RF communication links. The transponders are each adapted to receive electromagnetic RF tag signals from RFID tags within the associated picocell and transmit optical RF tag signals to the corresponding RFID reader over the corresponding optical fiber RF communication link. The RFID reader then converts the optical RF tag signals to electrical RFID tag signals, and extracts the RFID tag information from the RFID tag signals. The transponders can be arranged spaced apart along the length of one or more optical fiber cables made up of pairs of downlink and uplink optical fibers that constitute the optical fiber RF communication links.

摘要: A system to reduce number of APs (base station) and handover number (number of times to switch the APs) and secure a communication feasible area to prevent break of communication between a mobile body side and a ground side is disclosed. In this system, an optical fiber (15) connected to an AP (base station) (11) is branched by optical distribution means (17), and a plurality of tail ends of the optical fiber is thereby formed. E/O, O/E conversion means (optical signal/electronic signal interconversion means) (19) which convert optical signals and electronic signals and antennas (21) emitting radio waves are respectively provided at the plurality of tail ends of the optical fiber. The respective antennas are arranged along a track (3) on which a mobile body (1) moves. The whole track is covered by a continuous area comprised of communication feasible areas (23) for the respective antennas. Consequently, the communication feasible area on the track of the mobile body by one AP can be wide.

摘要: In a method and apparatus for converting optical wavelength division multiplexed channels to wireless channels, the information carrying optical carriers are first de-multiplexed and each optical carrier is then extracted from the data using an optical channelizing technique. The optical frequency of each of the extracted optical carriers is then shifted by an amount equal to the desired wireless carrier frequencies in the broadband wireless channels. Optical heterodyning of the frequency-shifted extracted lightwave carriers with the original data-containing optical signals, which are mutually in phase coherence, in a photodetector results in a set of wireless carriers each modulated with the data carried by the corresponding optical channel.
