Abstract:
The trailer hitch accessory is used for guiding a trailer hitch to a ball joint. The hitch accessory has a hollow housing (25) with a front end (40) with angled sidewalls (30a, 30b). A cord (24) is attached to the axle (48) and extends through the front end (40). A U-shaped lock mechanism (31) is attached to the housing (25) and has opposite sidewalls (52,54). The sidewalls each has a groove (58, 72) defined therein. The lock mechanism (31) is adapted to receive the trailer hitch (12) but not an outwardly protruding bolt (13). The trailer hitch (12) is positionable inside the U-shaped lock mechanism (31) only when outer ends of the bolt (13) are disposed in the grooves (68, 78) defined in the sidewalls. A locking plate (64, 80) slidably attached to the sidewalls (52, 54) to lock the outer ends (15) of the bolt.
Abstract:
At least one limited articulating female hitch mechanism and trailer for mounting to a conventional trailer hitch male connection member mounted on a towing vehicle. The hitch mechanisms are pivotal in only the vertical plane. The combination comprises a trailer having a horizontally disposed load supporting frame mounting of swivel (or 360 degree horizontally rotating) wheel assemblies about 360 degrees. This arrangement, coupled with the hitch mechanism, assures the trailer tracks the towing vehicle so that the sides of the towing vehicle and the sides of the trailer remain constantly parallel to each other Reduced trailer size and weight, reduced storage requirements, ease of backup maneuvering and avoidance of road hazards, vehicles, pedestrians and objects is thus facilitated by such arrangement. This system also reduces the weight that is placed upon the towing vehicles rear axle by the trailer hitch mechanism and therefore ensures that the full weight of the front steering wheels of the towing vehicle remain on the road surface so that the towing vehicle steering is not diminished by an uplifting force.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an adjustable tongue assembly for a trailer including an elongate substantially enclosed housing with a lengthwise slot disposed horizontally at the front of the trailer bed. A guide carriage is movably seated in the housing, and the guide carriage is attached to a bracket attached exteriorly of the housing through the lengthwise slot. The guide carriage is journalled to a positioning screw that is rotatably seated lengthwise inside the housing. The positioning screw is coupled to a motor which drives the guide carriage laterally along the internal chamber. A trailer tongue is attached to the external bracket. Selective actuation of the drive motor causes the positioning screw to rotate, thereby moving the roller guide carriage laterally left or right, and thus carrying the bracket and trailer tongue therewith. Lateral adjustment of the device eliminates the need for the lateral element of precision during hook-up, leaving the operator responsible only for the more easily addressed forward and rearward positioning of the vehicle to achieve proper alignment of the trailer and hitch. Further, the invention simplifies backing up with the vehicle/trailer in tandem, and it improves forward maneuverability as the device can be used to cause the trailer to track in the same arc as the turning tow vehicle.
Abstract:
A trailer having a tongue that defines a longitudinal axis and includes a coupler portion. The coupler portion of the tongue can pivot relative to the longitudinal axis, thereby forming an angle between the coupler portion and the longitudinal axis. In a preferred embodiment, the tongue includes a breakaway coupler assembly. The breakaway coupler assembly includes the coupler portion having a distal end adapted to engage a towing vehicle, and a flex-joint pivotally engaged with the coupler portion. This allows the coupler portion to pivot relative to said flex-joint when a predetermined force is placed on the flex-joint, such as in a jack-knife situation.
Abstract:
A frame apparatus and system that provides the use of standard tractor-mounted agricultural and industrial work implements with a pickup truck or comparable flat-bed vehicle. Disclosed embodiments provide for the use of commercially available short-line front-end loaders and various effectors suitably adapted for use therewith. The system can be mounted and dismounted with implements attached, and connects to the host vehicle via a bed-mounted gooseneck hitch and frame- or bumper-mounted square hitch receiver.
Abstract:
A coupling device (10) for allowing a user to connect a trailer (104) having a gooseneck assembly to a hitch ball (102) of a towing vehicle (106). The coupling device includes a housing (12), jaws (24 and 26) and a locking mechanism (32). The jaws are pivotably mounted in the housing and are biased into the open position by springs (30). The locking mechanism includes a locking slide bar (38) which moves across the front of the jaws when the jaws are in the closed position. When the jaws are in the open position and the locking slide bar is unlocked, the jaws prevent the locking slide bar from moving to the closed position. When the hitch ball is moved between the jaws, the jaws move to the closed position and, the unlocked, locking slide bar automatically moves to the closed position.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an assembly for a trailer hitch for motorcycles that allows for easy attachment and an unobtrusive profile. The hitch assembly includes two (2) support ribs connected to the motorcycle frame and a cross piece to which a ball hitch is attached. The hitch assembly attaches to the frame of the motorcycle, regardless of whether the rear fender is a bob tail, a conventional fender or a low retro style; whether the wheel is a fat tire or not; and whether there are side bags or turn signals or not. The hitch assembly does not use supports mounted to the exterior of the wheel or hub. Further the hitch assembly in some embodiments can be installed such that it is not visible except for the ball hitch hanging down from the particular fender far enough to attach and detach a trailer tongue. In one embodiment the ball hitch is removably attached. The invention also addresses the potential height disparity between the ball hitch and the trailer tongue.
Abstract:
An interchangeable ball hitch includes a post with a threaded stem and a tapered shank, a ball including a tapered bore adapted for receipt on the tapered shank and a cap for engaging a locking track carried on the tapered shank and securing the ball to the post.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a visual alignment device useful to aid a driver of a towing vehicle to properly align the ball of a hitch of the towing vehicle to a socket on the trailer to be towed. For this purpose, an upstanding rod is mounted over the ball of the hitch but not in contact therewith. This is accomplished by the use of a C-shaped clamp which is clamped to the neck of the ball mounted to the hitch. Another upstanding rod is mounted on the tongue of the trailer by being clamped on the surface of the inverted socket destined to receive the ball of the hitch. By visually aligning the tops of said upstanding rods with each other, the driver of the towing vehicle is able to align the ball of the hitch and the socket of the trailer with each other to obtain a driving connection when connected to each other.
Abstract:
In order to improve a trailer coupling for motor vehicles comprising a pivot bearing body which is rigidly attached to the vehicle and upon which there is mounted a pivotal element that is pivotal about a pivotal axis, a ball neck which extends outwardly from the pivotal element and carries a coupling ball at the end thereof remote from the pivotal element, and a locking device for fixing the pivotal element relative to the pivot bearing body in interlocking manner, so that the locking device is constructed in as simple a manner as possible and can be implemented in simple manner so that it is free of play, it is proposed that the pivotal element is mounted on the pivot bearing body such that it is displaceable along the pivotal axis thereof and that by displacement of the pivotal element along the pivotal axis the pivotal element is moveable into a position wherein it is pivotal relative to the pivot bearing body and into a position wherein it is fixed relative to the pivot bearing body in mutually non-rotatable manner by means of interlocking arrangement.
