Abstract: Differential case includes multiple oil intake holes being respectively at positions offset from intermediate point between two pinions adjacent peripherally in the case toward the pinions, the holes passing through outer peripheral wall of the case in inside-outside direction and being capable of taking lubricant oil into the case. The holes are formed such that as seen in projection plane orthogonal to rotation axis of the case, axes of the holes extending from inner to outer opening ends of the holes are inclined forward in rotational direction of the case when vehicle travels forward. As seen in the projection plane, the pinions are placed outside areas between first and second imaginary lines, the first imaginary lines joining the axis and one peripheral ends of the inner opening ends, the second imaginary lines joining the axis and the other peripheral ends thereof.

Abstract: A differential and method of operating the differential is described. The differential has side gears and at least one pinion gear in mesh with the side gears. One of the side gears is provided with dog clutch teeth and an axially extending ring carrying clutch plates. A clutch housing has an axially extending ring carrying clutch plates interleaved with the side gear clutch plates. A dog clutch ring is connected to the clutch housing and selectively engages with the side gear dog clutch teeth. The above-described system permits an axle system of a tandem axle system to be selectively engaged and disengaged.

Abstract: An axle drive system for a motor vehicle, having a dynamoelectric drive motor (1), a shiftable superimposing transmission having a first and a second gear stage (3, 4), a shift actuator system (5) for shifting the superimposing transmission, as well as a power divider (8) driving two output shafts (10, 12). The drive motor (1), power divider shafts (9, 11), output shafts (10, 12) and dynamoelectric drive motor (1) are arranged coaxially to each other and perpendicular to the direction of travel of the motor vehicle. A particularly compact design is achieved for the axle drive system of the aforementioned type in that the shift actuator system (5) having an electric motor (14) provided for actuation purposes is in its entirety disposed in a space bounded by the first gear stage (3) on one side and the second gear stage (4) on the other side in the axial direction of the drive system.

Abstract: A CVT (continuously variable transmission) differential is provided which includes a first drive input ring gear having internal teeth. A planetary or bevel gear differential is connected to the first drive input ring gear. The planetary differential includes a planet gear carrier, first planet gears, second planet gears, a first sun gear, and a second sun gear. Alternatively, the bevel gear differential includes a carrier that supports drive and driven bevel gears. A second drive input is connected to the planet gear carrier or bevel gear carrier. Preferably, a primary drive is connected to the first drive input ring gear, which can be an internal combustion engine or an electric motor. Preferably, a secondary drive is connected to the second drive input, which is preferably an electric motor, for example for a hybrid motor vehicle.

Abstract: A transfer case for a motor vehicle. An input is rotatable about an axis to receive torque, an output is rotatable about the axis to transmit torque, and a planetary gear set is rotatable about the axis and operatively coupled between the input and the output. A shift sleeve circumscribes and is axially slidably carried along the axis, and a shift sleeve lock is automatically engageable with the shift sleeve responsive to the transfer case exceeding a predetermined rotational speed, to prevent axial movement of the shift sleeve above that speed. A related method is also provided.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to piece-part, sub-assembly, assembly, and component levels of a differential composed of a sun gear configuration and utilized in an integrated drive generator. An integrated drive generator is a hydro-mechanical transmission that drives a synchronous salient pole generator. The integrated drive generator is a constant speed output, variable speed input transmission that includes the differential and a hydraulic unit. In general, the integrated drive generator utilizes the variable speed input from an accessory gear box of an engine to drive or control a hydraulic unit, which in turn drives or controls a churn leg member of the differential. As the differential is driven, speeds of each speed member of the differential are then summed to generate the constant speed output to drive the synchronous salient pole generator.

Abstract: A gear assembly with two inputs and two outputs which can be used on zero turn riding mowers or similar vehicles. The first input is a propelling input and the second input is a steering input. The assembly contains a planet carrier, a first planetary gear assembly, and a second planetary gear assembly. The propelling input is engaged with the planet carrier. The first and second planetary gear assemblies contain a ring gear. The steering input is engaged with the ring gears. The steering input is either a helical bevel gear, straight bevel gear, or a gear train. In another version, the gear assembly can have two planet carriers connected externally to the planetary gear assemblies. In this instance, a central gear is used in between the first planetary gear assembly and the second planetary gear assembly to connect the sun gears.
