Abstract:
An impact detecting apparatus that is configured to be attached to an object and includes a drop-impact display unit configured to display a direction of drop impact when the object is dropped; and a tilt display unit configured to display a direction of tilting when the object is tilted. The drop-impact display unit and the tilt display unit displays the direction of drop impact and the direction of tilting at the same time.
Abstract:
A technique used to determine a falling state of a falling body, such as whether the falling body reaches a falling termination speed and falls uniformly or falls with a change in the speed is provided. In particular, a method of determining a falling state of a falling body passing through a measured substance inserted into a measuring container is provided, the method including: measuring a first elapsed time which is a time interval between extreme values of two potentials generated in a first coil pair when the falling body passes through the first coil pair and a second elapsed time which is a time interval between extreme values of two potentials generated in a second coil pair when the falling body passes through the second coil pair; and determining the falling state of the falling body by comparing the first elapsed time with the second elapsed time.
Abstract:
A method for testing internal differences in reinforced flexible composites including placing a flexible composite on a rigid support structure, tapping the composite with a tapper of predetermined mass, determining a value representative of the impact duration of the tap and/or computing a value representative of the local stiffness of the composite. The composite may be a power transmission belt or portion thereof with tensile cord reinforcement. The method is useful for comparing the degree of penetration of elastomer into the tensile cord, for example in a cast polyurethane toothed belt.
Abstract:
A shock simulation test apparatus and method utilize a test plate and formed explosive charges to sever or penetrate one or more portions of a suspended test plate in order to subject any attached test item(s) to a realistic pyroshock stimulus. One or more shock measurement sensors, such as accelerometers, may be attached to the test plate or the test item(s) to measure the response to this shock stimulus. The apparatus and method is flexible in that many different scenarios can be simulated from different test plate materials, charge sizes and types. This method replicates actual end-use source shock environments typical in aerospace applications, but can be extended to any industry having a pyroshock environment and test requirement.
Abstract:
A drop test device for testing the strength of a product includes an operating platform and a hanging mechanism. The operating platform includes a bottom board, a pillar substantially perpendicularly connected to the bottom board and a support member rotatably secured on the pillar. The hanging mechanism is mounted to the pillar, and includes a clamp member for positioning the product. The product is sandwiched by the clamp member so an arris of the product abuts the support member. The support plate is rotated away from the product, so the product can be disengaged from the clamp member and dropped towards the bottom board.
Abstract:
A method of measuring drop impact at an electronic device includes detecting a fall based on signals from drop detection sensor of the electronic device, receiving an output from a piezoelectric sensor in response to detecting the fall, and storing drop data based on the output from the piezoelectric sensor in a memory at the electronic device.
Abstract:
In one aspect, a method of determining an instantaneous speed of an arrow, includes determining a time-of-flight of the arrow; determining a distance between a location from which the arrow is loosed and a location of a target-face; providing, with an apparatus included in the arrow, data from at least a portion of a free flight of the arrow; and determining the instantaneous speed of the arrow for at least one point of the free-flight by employing each of: a) the time-of-flight; b) the distance; and c) at least some of the data provided by the apparatus.
Abstract:
An impact monitoring apparatus that includes a support member made of an elastic material capable of being attached to or worn by a user and at least one force measuring element attached to the support member. The force measuring elements may be easily removed from the support member. The force measuring element may include an indicator capable of indicating the amount of force or impact sustained by the user. If the force measuring element does not include an indicator, then the apparatus may further include an indicator that is associated with the force measuring element.
Abstract:
In one embodiment a damage impactor comprises a housing defining a passage, an impact assembly, an actuator assembly, and an engagement assembly. In one embodiment the impact assembly comprises a guide rod comprising an impact head, and a bias mechanism to bias the guide rod in a first direction. The actuator assembly comprises an actuator, and an actuator rod coupled to the actuator. The engagement assembly selectively couples the impact assembly to the actuator assembly by driving the actuator rod in the first direction to an engagement position where the engagement assembly couples the actuator rod to the guide rod, retracting the actuator rod in a second direction, opposite the first direction, to a release position and releasing the guide rod from the actuator rod. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
