Specifically a clutch cylinder and a brake cylinder provided in the unit have an inlet-outlet port in common, and are so arranged on a spring-applied-brake, hydraulically-applied-clutch basis that a single pressure signal in the inlet-outlet port alternately operates the cylinders to apply the brake and release the clutch, to apply the clutch and release the brake, or by proper modulation to partially engage either, i.e., slip the clutch or drag the brake to intermediate degrees as desired.

    摘要: In a control apparatus, for a vehicle having a transmission and brake means wherein hydraulic passage means connects a source of fluid pressure to a fluid actuated clutch, an improved inching valve interposed in said passage means for selectively reducing the hydraulic pressure supplied to the clutch in proportion to the degree of actuation of the brake means in two successive stages wherein there is no direct initial mechanical connection between the inching valve spool and its actuating means whereby in the first stage of operation the solely hydraulical connection between the actuating means and the spool member positively restricts the operation of the improved inching valve to pressures below the maximum desired clutch slip pressure and wherein during the second stage of operation, the clutch pressure is further reduced to a minimum slip pressure.

    摘要: In a control system for a vehicle having a transmission with fluid actuated frictional engaging means and brake means wherein a first hydraulic passage means interconnects a fluid pressure source with the frictional engaging means, a regulating valve is disposed in the first hydraulic passage means, for regulating the pressure of the pressure fluid supplied to the frictional engaging means, with the regulating valve means also being operatively connected with the brake means and responsive to the degree of actuation of the brake means and actuatable between a first and a second position, whereby in the first position the pressure fluid can freely flow into, through and out of the inching valve toward the frictional engaging means, however in the second position, the fluid flow through a first set of radial apertures is blocked by a regulating spool and thereafter further radial apertures are progressively opened by the regulating spool means so as to regulate the force of the pressure fluid acting on the frictional engaging means. One embodiment of this invention is a downstream regulator that regulates the flow of pressure fluid into the regulator valve whereas another embodiment of this invention is a bypass type downstream regulator valve that regulates the flow of pressure fluid out of the regulator valve. Both of these embodiments feature a quick initial pressure drop over a short distance of valve travel, followed by a low further pressure drop over a long distance of valve travel, thus permitting insensitive control by the vehicle operator and thereby permitting smooth vehicle performance.

    摘要: Clutch controlling apparatus which may be utilized in industrial-type vehicles, such as for example, forklift trucks, for controlling the vehicle during inching operations includes a source of fluid pressure, a fluid pressure-type clutch fluidically connected to the pressure source, an inching valve disposed within the fluid circuit connecting the fluid pressure source and the clutch mechanism which controls the degree to which the clutch mechanism is actuated and which in turn is actuated to a degree which is dependent upon the depression of the vehicle brake pedal, and limiting means for selectively inactivating the inching valve such that the inching valve is inoperative independent of the brake pedal.In this manner, when the vehicle is being operated on level ground, the inching operation is performed by intermittently depressing the brake pedal which actuates the inching valve which in turn deactivates the clutch mechanism thereby terminating driving torque to the vehicle transmission. When the vehicle is operated upon ground having a downward slope, the limiting means inactivates the inching valve whereupon depression of the brake pedal does not actuate the inching valve so as to deactuate the clutch mechanism. Consequently, the vehicle is not effectively placed in a neutral condition and the vehicle does not operate in an uncontrolled manner and the inching operation may be performed by the braking means.

The control mechanism includes a mechanical actuator with power assist to actuate a pair of clutch elements selectively in opposite directions into and out of position for engaging a drive and individual ones of a pair of driven members. A pair of quide bars and surrounding collar structure support the clutch elements for movement therealong. A pair of arms which provide support and stabilization of the clutch elements are connected at a diametrically opposed positions to the collar structure. Each arm is carried by and movable in an arc about the axis of a shaft. One of the arms serves as an actuator. A pneumatic motor is coupled to the shaft. Mechanical actuation and motor assist rotates the shaft and the arms to impart linear movement to the clutch elements along the guide bars.

    摘要: A transmission control system includes controls for engaging speed ratio devices and directional devices. A safety valve functions to insure that initially, no fluid is supplied from a source to a speed ratio device unless the directional device control is in a neutral position. The safety valve shifts after a build up in pressure in such chosen speed ratio device. Such safety valve shift allows full pressure buildup in the speed ratio device, and also allows full pressure to be supplied to the chosen directional drive device upon shifting of the directional drive control from the neutral position.
