    Abstract: A fire suppression system includes a feed port and a channel to couple the feed port to an actuation chamber. A solenoid valve controllably blocks a connection between the feed port and the channel. Pressure from the feed port builds up in the actuation chamber based on the solenoid valve unblocking the connection. A piston is in communication with the actuation chamber. The system also includes an inlet port closed off by a disc. The piston travels through the inlet port and burst the disc based on the pressure in the actuation chamber. An outlet port is coupled to the inlet port.

    Abstract: A ducted smoke detector includes a housing defining an interior cavity, an air inlet in fluid communication with the interior cavity, an air outlet in fluid communication with the interior cavity, a smoke sensing chamber disposed in the interior cavity, and a particulate separator disposed between and in fluid communication with the air inlet and the smoke sensing chamber in the interior cavity. The particulate separator includes a shaft, a perforated wall disposed around the shaft, and a plurality of deflection vanes disposed on the shaft. The perforated wall extends from a first open end to a second open end, is connected to the shaft, and is configured to rotate with the shaft. The plurality of deflection vanes is disposed on the shaft and extend radially outward toward the perforated wall, the plurality of deflection vanes configured to rotate with the shaft and the perforated wall.

    Abstract: An optic system, optical fiber, and method of encoding information in the optical fiber. The optical fiber includes a reference Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) configured to reflect a light propagating in the optical fiber at a reference intensity and a first encoder FBG configured to reflect the light at a first encoder intensity. A light source propagate light along the optical fiber. A detector measures a reference intensity of the light reflected from the reference FBG and an encoder intensity of the light reflected from the encoder FBG. A processor decodes information encoded in the optical fiber based on the reference intensity and the encoder intensity.

    Abstract: A linear detector element includes an outer sheath having a first end and a second end, one or more shape memory responsive elements within the outer sheath and between the first end and the second end and first and second conductive wires passing through at least a portion of the outer sheath and through the one or more shape memory responsive elements. The one more shape memory responsive elements include a shape memory actuator surrounding the first and second conductive wires and that has an expanded size and a contracted size and that is sized and arranged such that when the shape memory actuator is in the contracted state the first and second conductive wires contact one another and when the shape memory actuator is in the expanded state the first and second conductive wires do not contact one another.
