A controlling device such as a remote control has programming for transmitting a signal response to a plurality of control environments, each environment including a signaling device. Each signaling device in receipt of the signal request sends a signal response having a unique ID which is chosen to be characteristically attenuated by the surroundings of the environment. Because the controlling device can only be in one environment at a given time, and given the attenuation characteristics of the signal response from each signaling device, only one signal response will be received by the controlling device in each environment. Location definitions associated with the received unique ID may be used by programming in the controlling device to recall saved devices states, commands sets, macros, and even to dynamically generate commands based on the location information.

A deposition source includes at least one crucible for containing deposition material. A body includes a conductance channel with an input coupled to an output of the crucible. A heater increases a temperature of the crucible so that the crucible evaporates the deposition material into the conductance channel. A plurality of nozzles is coupled to an output of the conductance channel so that evaporated deposition material is transported from the crucible through the conductance channel to the plurality of nozzles where the evaporated deposition material is ejected from the plurality of nozzles to form a deposition flux. At least one of the plurality of nozzles includes a tube that is positioned proximate to the conductance channel so that the tube restricts an amount of deposition material supplied to the nozzle including the tube.

A radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag includes a face stock and an RFID device. The face stock has a printable side and an inlay side, with the RFID device mounted to the inlay side. A layer of adhesive is coated on the inlay side of the face stock. A liner is releasably adhered to the layer of adhesive and includes a relief area that accommodates for defection of the RFID device. The accommodation of the thickness of the RFID device results in a tag that has a substantially uniform printable surface. Accordingly, when passing through a printer, the printable surface is maintained substantially flat or linear at the print head of the printer, thereby minimizing jamming and enhancing printability. A pinch roller for a printer also accommodates for deflection of the RFID tag by providing a deformable section along a length thereof the body that has a greater resiliency than the rest of the body. At the location of the RFID device, the layer of adhesive may also include a blank that is substantially free of adhesive for accommodating the RFID device.

A device for collecting plant samples includes a punch and die mechanism for taking leaf plugs from plants. The punch itself includes a punch rod coaxially mounted inside a punch tube. In use, the punch tube has a distal end with two, diametrically opposed projections that interact with the formed aperture to cut a plug from a plant leaf. The punch rod then follows to remove a cut leaf plug from the formed aperture. Also included is a hydraulic subsystem for periodically delivering liquid on the punch and die mechanism to prevent plant debris from clogging the device.

The present invention relates to a food composition prepared by a method of sterilizing. More specifically to a sterilizing process designed to be used in an aseptic process that comprises the steps of transferring said food composition into a heating unit; passing an electric current through said composition; maintaining a power to mass flow rate range through said heating unit from about 125 kJoules/kg to about 750 kJoules/kg; adjusting a flow rate to maintain said food composition temperature exiting the heating unit from about 75° C. to about 175° C.; and cooling said food composition to a final temperature from about 5° C. to 100° C.

A web of radio frequency identification (RFID) devices includes a conductive layer atop an insulating layer, the conductive layer having one or more apertures therein. Alternatively, the web may not include an insulating layer. RFID chips or straps are electrically coupled to portions of the conductive layer on either side of an aperture, for use as antennas when the RFID devices are separated from one another, as by cutting. The apertures may be formed by creasing portions of the web, and removing parts of the creased portion. There may be one or more apertures in a longitudinal or transverse direction of the web. The antenna shapes of various of the RFID devices may be tessellated, nesting within one another or having the same boundary, thereby improving efficiency by using substantially all of the conductive material. The RFID devices may be tested and/or programmed while remaining in the web format.
