Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention comprise systems and methods for third-party administrative control of remote imaging jobs and imaging devices. In some embodiments, administrative controls may be used in conjunction with the remote user interface features to restrict access to the imaging device by remote user devices, remote user interface applications, and/or walkup users. In other embodiments, a server may provide a discovery process for imaging devices coupled thereto and may maintain a central repository for device capabilities information. The server may further emulate remote user interface capabilities for those imaging devices that do not directly support such features. In still other embodiments, a monitor process may be spawned to monitor status of the imaging device and jobs thereon and to control the state of job processing on the imaging device.
Abstract:
Expedited administrative processing of a pay-for-print job addressing content that was the subject of a previous imaging job is realized through anticipatory generation and storage of print cost data for the content attendant to processing the previous imaging job. Anticipatory generation and storage of print cost data permits highly accurate print cost estimation without incurring a penalty in terms of delayed price quotations or delayed verification of funds for the pay-for-print job.
Abstract:
Email pay-for-print system that affords users greater flexibility and transparency in billing. In one aspect, the invention comprises at least one mobile computing node, at least one printing node and a server node communicatively coupled with the mobile computing node and the printing node, wherein the server node receives via email a print job from the mobile computing node, transmits to the mobile computing node in response to the print job an email quotation for the print job comprising price information determined based at least in part on a cost analysis of the print job and, after receiving from the mobile computing node an acceptance of the quotation, transmits the print job to the printing node for outputting.
Abstract:
A method for managing image data and metadata is described. Image data is provided. Metadata associated with the image data is provided. A determination is made about the capabilities of a network and a destination. The image data and the metadata are encapsulated in an exchange format if the determined capabilities support encapsulation. The encapsulated image data and the metadata are transmitted to the destination over the network.
Abstract:
A method for printing using removable storage is described. An imaging job is initiated, wherein the imaging job comprises a fixed portion and a variable portion. The fixed portion is provided to an imaging device. The variable portion is provided to the imaging device. One of the fixed portion or the variable portion is communicated from a removable storage device to the imaging device. The fixed portion and the variable portion are merged into a combined document. The combined document is output.
Abstract:
The invention, it its several embodiments, pertains to document control, more particularly to tracking and controlling production and destruction of documents. Documents may include softcopies and hardcopies. Typically, each document controlled in the exemplary tracking and control system has its own tracking identifier, so as to enable the system, for example, to distinguish an original document from copies and to distinguish copies from copies.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for securely accessing imaging job resources in a printing device. The method initially downloads a restricted software resource to a printing device. That is, the resource is restricted to use by a user group. As differentiated from factory installed software, or field upgrades, the restricted software resource is stored in a user-accessible memory, such as non-volatile storage (e.g., RAM). Subsequently, an imaging job is accepted for processing. The imaging job is verified to be associated with the user group. Subsequent to verification, access is permitted to the restricted software resource, and the imagining job is processed using the restricted software resource.
Abstract:
A method for dynamically constructing a user interface definition is disclosed. A request for an information list is sent. The user interface definition with the information list is received. A filter script is applied to the user interface definition to provide a filtered user interface definition. The filtered user interface definition is sent to an application. The filtered user interface definition is constructed. The filtered user interface definition is displayed.
Abstract:
A method for deferring a print job within a queue is disclosed. The print job is received. The print job is scheduled for despooling to a printing device. Print data and print settings associated with the print job are analyzed. Paper requirements of the print job are determined. Availability of a paper supply associated with the printing device is determined. The print job is deferred if the paper supply does not satisfy the paper requirements.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for monitoring the despooling of a print job. In particular, the present invention relates to systems and methods for providing an integrated printer capabilities/status monitor having a front end and a back end of the printing process for identifying printers, printing capabilities, and status of printers, and for providing a printing device switchout and job completion notification, such that the capabilities and the printing process may be determined and monitored in a unified manner throughout the processing of the print job.
