摘要: Methods for producing phosphor based light sources are disclosed. One method includes measuring an excitation light output of an LED, forming a plurality of phosphor film articles, measuring an optical characteristic of each of the plurality of phosphor film articles, selecting one of the plurality of phosphor film articles based on the LED excitation light output and measured optical characteristic of the one of the plurality of phosphor film articles to obtain a desired emission light output from the phosphor film article when the phosphor film article is positioned to receive the excitation light, and positioning the phosphor film article to receive the excitation light.

摘要: An illumination device, such as a backlight for electronic display devices, is disclosed. The illumination device includes a lightguide optically coupled to a light source, and a viscoelastic layer and a nanovoided polymeric layer are used in conjunction with the lightguide to manage light emitted by the light source. The viscoelastic layer may be a pressure sensitive adhesive.

摘要: This application describes a front-lit reflective display assembly including a reflective display and an illumination article for front-lighting the display when the article is optically coupled to a light source. The illumination article includes a variable index light extraction layer optically coupled to a lightguide. The variable index light extraction layer has first and second regions, the first region comprising nanovoided polymeric material, the second region comprising the nanovoided polymeric material and an additional material, the first and second regions being disposed such that for light being transported at a supercritical angle in the lightguide, the variable index light extraction layer selectively extracts the light in a predetermined way based on the geometric arrangement of the first and second regions. Front-lit reflective display devices including the front-lit reflective display assembly optically coupled to a light source are also described.

摘要: A solid state light having a solid state light source such as LEDs, an optical guide, and a thermal guide. The optical guide is coupled to the light source for receiving and distributing light from the light source, and the thermal guide is integrated with the optical guide for providing thermal conduction from the solid state light source and dissipating heat through convection and radiation for cooling the light. The optical guide can be tapered to enhance the efficiency of light distribution. The thermal guide can have an external shell connected with internal fins, and the external shell can have a reflective coating to provide for a back reflector behind the optical guide.

摘要: A sound absorbing luminaire providing lighting for an interior space environment and managing the acoustics within the environment. The luminaire includes a frame holding an acoustic film and a lighting element, forming a resonant cavity between them. The acoustic film is used for absorbing sound within the resonant cavity, and the lighting element provides light from a light source, such as LEDs, through the acoustic film. An optical film can be mounted in the frame between the acoustic film and the lighting element for providing a desired distribution of light.

摘要: A light directing film includes a back major surface having light reflection regions and light transmission regions and being planar, and a front major surface opposing the back surface. The front surface is planar and a plurality of lenses is disposed between the front surface and the back surface. At least selected light transmission regions are registered with selected lens elements. A method for forming the light directing film and illuminated signs utilizing the light directing films are also described.
