摘要:
A signal obtained by optically scanning a bar code is subjected to differentiation to obtain differential data. Peak-to-peak distances are calculated from the differential data. When a peak-to-peak ΔTx distance is y times of a basic width, frequency f(x,y) will be, f(x,y)=y/ΔTx. A frequency map is prepared from the frequencies calculated. Transition routes in which one frequency each is selected. from each of the peak-to-peak distances, are formed. A transition route for which an error in frequencies is the least is taken as the most suitable transition route. An average of the frequencies included in the transition route is taken as a frequency f0 of the basic width.

A method of reading information which makes it possible to suppress the size of hardware and a price thereof and to improve an S/N ratio of a reading signal and reading resolution, wherein even if depth of field for reading is enlarged or a concave/convex portion or a blurred portion is left on the reading face, reading precision can be improved. The method includes steps of acquiring from a medium 1, a signal containing binary digit information having a predetermined information length and a one-dimensional arrangement, extracting information concerning an elemental unit length of the information length of the binary digit information from the acquired signal, and reading a ratio of the binary digit information to the information length based on the extracted elemental unit length information.

In a bar-code reader, a reading unit reads characters from a bar code, based on parameters. A storing unit stores a plurality of signal-waveform information corresponding to a plurality of character patterns. A selecting unit makes an operator select a correct-reading character from among a plurality of the characters, if there is an occurrence of a wrong reading. A comparing unit compares a pattern corresponding to the correct-reading character selected and a pattern acquired from a plurality of signal-waveform information while changing the parameters one by one. Based on a comparison result, a parameter-setting unit sets in the reading unit, the parameters for which the occurrence of the wrong reading is least.

A signal fetching unit fetches a signal that includes binarized information disposed with a predetermined information length, from a barcode. A module-frequency extracting unit extracts a module frequency equivalent to a basic unit length in the binarized information from the signal. A frequency shifting unit shifts a frequency to 0 Hz based on the module frequency for the signal. A low pass filter passes a low frequency component included in an output signal from the frequency shifting unit. A module-point extracting unit extracts a module point synchronized with the signal and that has the module frequency, based on the module frequency extracted and an output signal of the low pass filter. A demodulating unit demodulates a character of the barcode based on the module point extracted.

An optical scanning apparatus, such as a bar code scanner, for reading 360 degrees of, e.g., tray commodities. A first scanning pattern is emitted almost in the horizontal direction to an installation surface of the apparatus, and a second scanning is pattern emitted from an upper portion to a lower portion of the apparatus, toward the installation surface, via a window provided vertical to the installation surface.

A point of sale (POS) device, such as an optical scanner, reduces the beam diameters of two light beam components having been emitted from a common light source and split by an optical beam splitter. The optical scanner includes a light source emitting a light beam, a light beam splitter splitting the emitted light beam, a polygon mirror reflecting the split light beam components into mutually different directions, and groups of mirrors. The groups of mirrors are provided for each reading window, allowing the light beam components to be emitted therefrom. The emitted light beam components can then impinge on an object, whereupon the optical scanner detects by detectors and reads a bar code located on the object. The optical scanner also includes beam shaping devices, one of which is placed between the light source and light splitting device and the other of which is placed in one of the optical paths followed by one of the light beam components. Since the beam diameter of the light beam components are reduced, and since the light beams are emitted from multiple reading windows, bar codes with narrow spaces between the bars can be read more easily, even with varying orientations of the bar code on the object.

A light source module has a laser diode, and a circuit board. The circuit board includes the laser diode, a driver circuit for the laser diode, and a connector for receiving a power supply for driving the laser diode from an electric power source. A lens and an aperture shapes the laser beam emitted from the laser diode. A housing made of electrical insulating material contains the lens, the aperture and the circuit board except for a portion of the circuit board where the connector is mounted.

A bar code reader for reading a bar code 30 composed of a plurality of white bars and a plurality of black bars, includes a generating unit 8 for generating bar width values respectively showing a width of the read bars, a judging unit 12 for judging based on the bar width values whether or not the read bar code satisfies a predetermined standard condition, and a converting unit 12 for converting the read bars into a plurality of bars in which a black-and-white-inverted bar is interposed between the conversion-target color bars. If the judging unit judges that the bar code does not satisfy the predetermined standard condition, the converting unit converts any one of the white and black bars constituting the bar code, and thereafter the judging unit makes a re-judgement. The bar code reader is capable of demodulating the bar code which has been abnormally read by presuming and compensating the bars read apparently as a single bar to a plurality of bars.

An optical scanning apparatus which reduces operator workload at a checkout counter and configured to be inexpensive to manufacture. In particular this optical scanning apparatus is designed so that an operator can scan merchandise without tilting these commodities. Therefore, to use this optical scanning apparatus the operator spots the bar code and slides the merchandise along the checkout counter. The optical scanning apparatus emits laser scanning patterns from the side of the counter and parallel to its surface as well as from above. Therefore whether the bar code is located on the side or top of the merchandise the apparatus is able to read it without tilting the merchandise. This is particular useful when dealing with liquid products, such as beverages or soups, and delicate products, such as cakes. In the case of liquid products, tilting them would run the risk of spilling them on the counter. In the case of delicate products, tilting them runs the risk of disturbing their appearance. The optical scanning apparatus is also designed to have a low profile and thus not act as an obstruction to operator's vision or movement of merchandise to be scanned.

A bar code reader having two reading windows, i.e., a bottom window and a side window. An increased number of scanning lines are used for constituting scanning patterns for scanning bar codes, and the arrangement of the optical system is contrived to decrease the whole size of the bar code reader and, particularly, to decrease the depth of the bar code reader. A source of laser light, a splitter for splitting the laser beam emitted from the laser light source into two, a reflection mirror for transmitting one beam from the splitter to a polygon mirror, the polygon mirror which rotates to scan the incident laser beam, a mirror system for emitting the beam reflected by the polygon mirror through the reading window, and a focusing member for focusing the beam reflected by the bar code onto a detector that detects the beam reflected by the bar code, are arranged on the same line in the bar code reader. By using a concave mirror, furthermore, the beam reflected by the bar code is folded back to one detector. The light-receiving surface of another detector is faced downward to receive the beam reflected by the bar code through Fresnel lens and mirror, thereby to decrease the depth of the bar code reader. Furthermore, the beam passage from the reflection mirror goes through the lower surface of the polygon mirror intersecting the axis of rotation of the polygon mirror.
