摘要： A liquid-crystal display device of a simple matrix type is permitted to present a liquid-crystal display of good display quality free from nonuniformity in display brightness. A method of driving a liquid-crystal display device wherein voltages which correspond to potential differences between scanning voltages from a Y drive circuit and display voltages from an X drive circuit are applied to liquid-crystal cells at intersection points between scanning electrodes (Y electrodes) and data electrodes (X electrodes), thereby presenting a display conforming to display data comprises the steps of providing a correction time period for correcting the display voltage to be output from the X drive circuit at least once every scanning period of one line, and outputting a correction voltage at a voltage level which is intermediate between a voltage level in an ON-display state and a voltage level in an OFF-display state instead of the display voltage from the X drive circuit within the correction time period.

Owing to the substantially uniform color differences between the respectively adjacent tones, multiple-tone displays which are uniformly seen by the human eye can be obtained.

摘要： A liquid crystal (LC) display apparatus using an active matrix driving method includes an LC panel having electrodes of N rows by M columns (where N.gtoreq.2, M.gtoreq.2). Intersections of row electrodes and column electrodes form display dots. A column data generation circuit generates, for each row, column data to be supplied to the LC panel, on the basis of display data representing whether each dot should be turned on or not and values of an orthogonal function having values of -1 or 1. A column electrode driver drives column electrodes of the LC panel on the basis of generated column data. A row data generation circuit generates row data for each column on the basis of a part of values of the orthogonal function. A row electrode driver drives row electrodes of the LC panel on the basis of row data.

摘要： This specification discloses a novel multi-tone display matrix display device. The matrix display device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a matrix display panel having a matrix composed of plural X direction signal lines and plural Y direction signal lines lying at right angles thereto, intersecting points on the matrix being pixels of an image to be displayed, an X direction driving section for sequentially scanning the X direction signal lines to provide image signals, a Y direction driving section for driving the Y direction signal lines in synchronism with the scanning of the X direction signal lines to sequentially provide select signals to the Y direction signal lines, an A-D converter section for receiving an analog signal and converting it into a digital signal, a voltage generating section for generating signals at plural voltage levels, and a selector section for selecting an output signal from the voltage generating section in accordance with the output from A-D converter section and providing it to the X direction driving section as an image signal.

A selection arrangement is provided for selecting one bit of display information data out of a plurality of bits of display information data to be read out of the memories and a selection controller is provided for specifying the one bit of display information data to be selected by the selection arrangement so as to enable read out of each one bit of the plurality of bits in a predetermined time sequence corresponding to one horizontal perioid divided by N for display, where N is an integer of at least two. The X drive circuit is supplied one dot information at leat two times during the one horizontal period so that one dot is controlled for display at least two times during the one horizontal period to enable multi-level tone display.

摘要： In a half tone display driving circuit for a liquid crystal matrix panel, a pulse for half tone display is phase modulated so that pulse signals which are out of phase relative to each other are applied to adjacent columns of the liquid crystal matrix panel, or from the phase-modulated pulse a gray scale pulse (tone pulse) is prepared in which the frequency of occurrence of voltage edges is decreased. The dephased pulse signals or the gray scale pulse (tone pulse) is used to prevent a decrease in brightness of display when the liquid crystal matrix panel is driven for half tone display.
