摘要: A wound cleansing solution dispenser that indicates the volume of liquid remaining and reduces medical waste. A shield is mounted onto the dispenser to prevent any contaminated fluids from splashing onto the care giver. The dispenser can be brought in a sterile condition to the patient free from any separate power supplies or fluid source lines. The stream pressure of the dispenser may be adjustable but it may be set for a substantially constant pressure over the volume of fluid. The dispenser may be used in any orientation and still deliver wound cleansing solution at the selected pressure.

摘要: An irrigation solution collection device is provided including an outer sheath formed of substantially water impervious material and an inner collecting and draining section formed of capillary matting material. The device includes proximal and distal ends with the collecting and draining section of capillary matting material being exposed at the proximal end for collecting irrigation solution from a selected site. This irrigation solution is then drawn through the sheath to the distal end for delivery to a collection receptacle. Preferably, the proximal end of the device is substantially U-shaped so as to surround the site from which irrigation solution is to be collected. Additionally, the flow rate of the capillary matting material through the sheath is increased by forming the collecting and draining section from a plurality of strips of capillary matting material that flare outwardly from substantially adjacent the proximal end to the distal end. In accordance with an additional aspect of the present invention, an irrigation system is provided. The system includes a mechanism for irrigating a selected site with an irrigation solution in conjunction with a collection device.

摘要: A disposable pressure wound irrigation device is provided having a reservoir of cleansing solution disposed therein and a pressure chamber for providing a force upon the reservoir such that a liquid stream of cleansing solution is expelled at a constant pressure therefrom. Preferably, the propellant chamber will be provided with a regulator valve fitted within the pressure chamber for constantly monitoring the pressure which urges the chamber against the reservoir. An aimable outlet nozzle is provided through which the cleansing solution is expelled, the nozzle directing the flow of the cleansing solution to the wound surface. A release valve is further provided in order to selectively couple the nozzle with the reservoir, such that the cleansing solution may be evacuated therefrom through a passageway formed by a depression of the valve.

摘要: A splatter shield for use with a hypodermic syringe to prevent high-angle back-splatter, from syringe lavage, into the user's face. The splatter shield comprises a preferably circular sheet of stiff material which is preferably colorless and transparent, having a central tube which is attached thereto and which passes through the center of said sheet and projects on at least one side of said sheet sufficiently to have one end adapted to receive a standard syringe fitting and the other end adapted to receive a standard hypodermic needle. Said generally circular sheet is preferably cupped about the central tube so as to be concave on the side of the guard which has the needle-receiving, central tube end. The radius of the generally circular sheet and the degree of cupping in the preferred embodiment are chosen so that the shield flares out from the needle, like a skirt, sufficiently to intercept lavage-splatter at about 60.degree. to 90.degree. from the plane of the wound, and also chosen such that the point of the needle, in use, projects beyond the plane of the splatter shield or the base thereof.

摘要: An instrument for preventing the splashback of potentially infectious fluids and body tissues during wound irrigation as well as for preventing needle impalement injury to patient or ancillary medical personnel comprises a hub (16) having a central bore (18) the proximal end of which will accept the tip of a syringe (14) and which is integrally joined to a narrow diameter tubule (22) extending from the distal end, said tubule being directed down the central longitudinal axis of a transparent, dome-shaped shield (24). Said shield is integrally joined at its proximal end around the hub and gradually enlarges in diameter towards its distal end, terminating in a circular rim (36). Said shield, when placed adjacent to a wound (40) to be irrigated, will effectively contain potentially infectious splashback (46) and prevent said splashback from contacting irrigator or other personnel, as well as protecting the patient and medical personnel from impalement injury due to contact with a needle.

摘要: A drainage device for irrigation of the ear comprises a receptacle of clear flexible plastic which has an inner wall formed with an opening through which the outer ear projects, thereby aiding in positioning and supporting the same. A band or tie strings on the upper edge of the inner receptacle wall embraces the patient's head and supports the weight of the receptacle. From the bottom of the receptacle extends a drainage tube which can be conveniently clipped to the patient's garment. To enable the receptacle to fit in leak-proof manner, surgical appliance adhesive secures the receptacle around the front and lower part of the outer ear.

摘要: Equipment for delivering a liquid such as a barium solution into a body stoma such as the anus or the mouth of a colostomy, in which equipment provision is made for retaining the equipment in the desired position under the influence of reduced pressure or vacuum. A vacuum chamber for this purpose preferably substantially completely surrounds a catheter adapted to be inserted into the stoma, the vacuum chamber being in spaced relation to the catheter so as to cooperate with areas of the body surface spaced from the stoma.
