A mixer apparatus is disclosed for mixing livestock feed. The apparatus includes a container for the reception therein of the feed. The container has a housing and a wall extending away from the housing, the wall defining an opening disposed remote from the housing for the reception therethrough of the feed. The arrangement is such that the housing and the wall define therebetween an enclosure for the feed received through the opening. An auger is disposed within the enclosure, the auger having an axis of rotation extending through the housing. Additionally, a substantially horizontally disposed drive pinion is provided which intermeshes with a final driven wheel which is driven by the drive pinion and disposed substantially horizontally within the housing. The final driven wheel is rotatable about the axis of rotation, the final driven wheel being drivingly connected to the auger so that when the final driven wheel is rotated within the housing, the auger is rotated therewith within the enclosure for mixing the feed. Also, the final driven wheel has a diameter of at least three foot.

A vertical mixing device for fodder includes a mixing chamber comprising at least two adjacent vertical augers provided in longitudinal direction of the mixing chamber one behind the other at the bottom and between essentially upright walls. Both vertical augers can be driven with the same sense of rotation in order to convey the fodder upwardly. In the wedge areas between the rotational courses of both vertical augers distributor cones are situated at the walls. The surface of each distributor cone comprises guiding surfaces extending with differing steepness from a bottom sided base situated within one wedge area to a tip positioned at least close to the wall. Each distributor cone is inclined obliquely towards one of the vertical augers the sense of rotation of which is directed towards this distributor cone.

The reduction unit is coupled to a hydraulic motor connected to a pump, which is in turn coupled to a drive unit.

A flailer for cutting forage-type materials in a feed reel mixer or similar machine has a powered shaft with a plurality of flailing blades swingably mounted in a full helix fashion, and an arcuate hood for directing material into the path of the flailing blades and containing the resulting debris. An intake shield having a resilient flap attached thereto is mounted to the hood at its inlet to prevent undesirably large materials from entering the flailer. Another resilient flap at the outlet side of the hood directs cut materials down onto the auger and helps contain the dust from flailing. A second set of stationary blades mounted on the inside of the hood near its inlet cooperates with corresponding flailing blades to shear the materials in a series of smooth individual cuts, conserving power and reducing vibration.

A hay feed wall extends longitudinally of the mixer chamber with its lower edge closely adjacent to a chopper auger. A control wall extends laterally from a chamber side wall over the chopper auger to the feed wall to cause hay bales to be channeled into the chopper auger whereupon the hay is chopped by the knives on the outer peripheral edge of the auger flighting. The hay is then augered out of the chopping chamber into the mixing chamber where it is acted upon by a lower mixing auger and a rotor in the main chamber. The lower corner of the feed wall engages the lower portion of the control wall to pivot the control wall to a substantially vertical position as the feed wall is pivoted to that position by opertion of a cable connected to a winch.

A feed mixing apparatus includes a tank, and bottom and upright augers. The tank has a top wall, front and rear end walls, side walls and a bottom wall. The bottom auger is rotatably mounted and overlies the bottom wall. Tubular housing portions are disposed adjacent to opposite sides of the bottom auger at an intermediate location therealong, and are connected to and protrude from the exteriors of the side and bottom walls. One housing portion has a horizontal bottom end wall connected to and extending generally tangentially from the tank bottom wall. The upright augers are disposed at the intermediate location adjacent to opposite sides of the bottom auger and extend within and upwardly from the tubular housing portions. One upright auger is rotatably mounted to the top wall and the housing portion bottom end wall. Hydraulic motors are provided for driving the bottom and upright augers. One hydraulic motor is disposed on the exterior of housing portion bottom end wall and coupled to the one upright auger. The lower end of the one upright auger flight is disposed adjacent the housing portion bottom end wall at the level of the bottom of the bottom auger flight. Thus, the bottom auger is only required to push feed material along the housing portion horizontal bottom end wall to reach the lower end of the one upright auger flight.

Disclosed is a vehicle carrying a grinder-mixer providing a low bin profile and improved mixing through the use of complementing horizontal and vertical circulatory paths of the ground feed, which is produced by a pair of cooperating parallel auger conveyors extending in a horizontal plane along the bottom of the mixing bin in side by side relationship and rotating so as to move the feed in opposite directions, each feeding the other, in cooperation with a pair of vertical cooperating augers spaced axially of the horizontal augers and moving and mixing the ground feed along a circulatory path in vertical planes, the said horizontal and vertical circulatory paths intersecting to thereby greatly increase the mixing action. One of the horizontal augers is connected to a discharging system and is reversible to cooperate with the latter to empty the bin.
