The assembly is beneficially applied to a variety of articles and used in a variety of related methods. A decal organization tool for products needing large numbers of decals utilizes a single large sheet on which all product decals for a specific product or product model are carried. The invention includes a means by which the previously unavoidable irregular margins surrounding the decals are effectively hidden from the eye and allows large sheet printing of decals with an aesthetically satisfactory overall appearance. An irregularly zone is added to the edge of each decal, and along with an ultraviolet responsive additive placed in the decal adhesive, allows the decal to form an indelible footprint on the product to which it is applied. The footprint, invisible to the eye, becomes visible under ultraviolet light, allowing identification of a specific decal and proof of its application to a product, even when the decal is no longer on the product.

The method of providing such an graphic includes printing an image comprising non-strippable ink onto an image-receiving substrate, printing a stratum of strippable ink onto the image, applying a first side of an adhesive layer onto the stratum, contacting a second side of the adhesive layer to the surface, and removing the image-receiving substrate to leave the image and stratum bonded to the surface. Application of a non-strippable ink in a strippable form allows for certain high definition images to be applied over, and removed from, sensitive surfaces such as other images without damage to such sensitive surfaces.

The present invention solves these needs by providing a building product, and a process for making the building product, that simulates the look of wood, marble, granite or other stone. The product is created by transferring a high-resolution image to a coated substrate using sublimation printing techniques. High-resolution, digital images are taken of a natural surface. These images are used to create an image on a transfer paper using sublimation inks. Building panels such as masonite, hardboard, medium density fiberboard, fiber-reinforced plastics, or cementboard, are provided with a polyester epoxy acrylate coating, or equivalent substrate capable of receiving sublimable inks. The transfer paper with the printed image is placed face-down on the substrate of the building panel. The transfer paper is pressed against the substrate and heated for a time sufficient to gasify the sublimable inks. The gasification causes the image to transfer into the image-receiving substrate. Because the ink is transferred throughout the substrate, the high-resolution image is retained with depth and richness. The transferred image may include additional text or graphics that transfer into the image-receiving substrate to form a building material simulating a natural surface, with integral text and graphics. Further, the image-receiving substrate may provide various sheens, as desired.
