    摘要: The invention relates to an on-line tension meter for an optic fiber. The tensile stress of a bare optic fiber is measured without contacting the optic fiber as the optic fiber is drawn in a draw machine. A loudspeaker causes a wire wave to be formed in the fiber. The fiber tension is then measured by the advancing speed of the wire wave. The speed is measured by means of two location-sensitive electro-optic indicators or cameras, the distance therebetween being known.

    摘要: As an optical fiber (12) is being drawn, air (14) is directed at a portion of the fiber as a succession of air pulses, the pulses having a frequency near the natural frequency of the fiber portion. The frequency of the air pulses is then varied over a range of frequencies that includes the natural frequency of the fiber portion. When the air pulse frequency equals the natural frequency of the fiber portion, a resonance occurs which greatly amplifies the amplitude of the vibration of the fiber portion. The large deflection of the fiber that occurs at resonance is easy to detect, and the air pulse frequency which causes such maximum deflection is taken as being equal to the resonant frequency and therefore to the natural frequency of the fiber portion. Changes of the detected resonant frequency can be interpreted in a straightforward manner as changes in optical fiber tension which, in turn, are used to make compensatory changes of the temperature of the furnace (10).

A noncontacting sensor means is mounted adjacent a portion of the paper path in a paper manufacturing apparatus. The sensor means detects flutter in a paper web travelling across the paper path. The tension in the paper web can be determined from the frequency and amplitude of the flutter. By adjusting the tension in the paper web to maintain the flutter within a predetermined range of frequency and amplitude, the tension in the paper web can be maintained at a desired level.

    摘要: A frame for being seated upon the fabric carries first and second spaced apart sensors capable of detecting the leading front of an acceleration wave as it passes each sensor. The first and second sensors each have an output, responsive to the presence of the acceleration wave, which can be coupled to a timer for measuring the time of flight of the acceleration wave between the two sensors. The velocity of the acceleration wave being determined by dividing the time of flight by the distance separating the sensors. An acceleration wave generating mechanism may also be carried by the frame and can include a solenoid oriented so that its armature impacts the fabric perpendicular thereto. Preferably the solenoid is energized by a pulse controlled by a solenoid energizing circuit. A noise immunity circuit connected to the sensors aids in discriminating against noise and transients.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is provided for measuring tension in stressed cables in which use is made of the relationship between the tension and the natural frequency of vibration of the cable. An electrical signal is generated by sensing the fluctuating field of a small permanent magnet attached to the vibrating cable and generating from this signal a periodic pulse signal having an average level proportional to the square of the cable variation frequency. The resulting signal is scaled to produce a final signal which is directly proportional to cable tension.
