    摘要: Herein is disclosed a method of generating ascorbic acid from yeast. In one embodiment, the yeast is a Zygosaccharomyces spp. or a Kluyveromyces spp. growing in a medium comprising an ascorbic acid precursor. In a second embodiment the yeast is a recombinant yeast growing in a medium comprising an ascorbic acid precursor. Preferably the recombinant yeast is transformed with a coding region encoding an enzyme selected from L-galactose dehydrogenase (LGDH), L-galactono-1,4-lactone dehydrogenase (AGD), D-arabinose dehydrogenase (ARA), D-arabinono-1,4-lactone oxidase (ALO) or L-gulono-1,4-lactone oxidase (RGLO). The ascorbic acid precursor is preferably D-glucose, L-galactose, L-galactono-1,4-lactone, or L-gulono-1,4-lactone. In another preferred embodiment the ascorbic acid is accumulated in the medium at levels greater than background. Preferably, the yield of the conversion of the precursor to ascorbic acid is preferably at least about 35%.

    摘要: The invention is directed to an oral irrigator for the care and cleaning of teeth and gums, which is provided with a pump (1) adapted to be driven by an electric motor. The pump (1) has an inlet (2) connected in particular to a liquid reservoir and provided with an inlet valve (8), an outlet (3) connected in particular to a jet nozzle and provided with an outlet valve (21), as well as a pump cylinder (5) connected to the inlet (2) and the outlet (3). The pump cylinder (5) has a piston (4) reciprocating therein, whereby liquid can be drawn from the inlet (2) into the pump cylinder (5) following which the drawn liquid can be delivered from the pump cylinder (5) to the outlet (3). The inlet valve (8) includes a pressure relief valve (13) through which liquid can be delivered from the pump cylinder (5) to the inlet (2) in the event of excess pressure building up. It is thus sufficient to provide on the jet nozzle only a shut-off valve (25) for shutting off the water pumped to the jet nozzle. It is not necessary for the electric on-off switch of the pump (1) to be located on the jet nozzle, but it may be disposed on the housing of the oral irrigator.

    摘要: Optical fiber-based wireless systems and related components and methods are disclosed. The systems support radio frequency (RF) communications with clients over optical fiber, including Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) communications. The systems may be provided as part of an indoor distributed antenna system (IDAS) to provide wireless communication services to clients inside a building or other facility. The communications can be distributed between a head end unit (HEU) that receives carrier signals from one or more service or carrier providers and converts the signals to RoF signals for distribution over optical fibers to end points, which may be remote antenna units (RAUs).
