摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for enhancing accuracy of jumping by incorporating interestingness estimates. In one embodiment, the method comprises serially displaying a sequence of page images; receiving a user input to stop sequencing through the page images; determining a location of a page image in the sequence of page images representing a point at which the user intended to stop in the sequence of page images but for display speed of the sequence of images and user reaction time in providing an indication of the point at which the user intended to stop, the location being selected based on visual distinctiveness of the page image at the location and the reaction time associated with the user; and automatically jumping back to the page image at the location in the sequence of page images.

摘要: Techniques for introducing devices to device families. Membership in a device family allows a device certain privileges such as the ability to engage in secure communications with another device in the same device family. A device is made a member of a device family by communicating to the device from a base station a ticket that is representative of the device family. The base station may also generate a paper receipt confirming the membership of the device in the device family.

摘要: A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types, such as printed paper as a first medium and a digital photograph, digital movie, digital audio file, or web link as a second medium. Furthermore, the MMR system facilitates business methods that take advantage of the combination of a portable electronic device, such as a portable video player or a portable audio player, and a paper document for the portable electronic device to provide information.

摘要: A printing method and apparatus includes fingerprinting a sheet of printable media such as paper to obtain a fingerprint. The fingerprint is encrypted using an encryption key known only to the user wanting to print the document. The encrypted fingerprint is then encoded and transferred to the document as machine readable information.

摘要: A user affixes one or more action stickers to a collection coversheet to identify, by location on the coversheet, target documents within a previously stored collection of documents. The action stickers also specify actions to be performed on the target documents. The coversheet is scanned and the affixed stickers are located and read. The specified actions are then performed on the target documents. If the specified actions change the organization or architecture of the document collection, an updated version of the collection may be generated and stored, and a new coversheet may be printed. The action stickers may be removable, self-adhesive labels.

摘要: A method and apparatus for appliance host supported network-based application delivery is described. In one embodiment, a local client device requests access to a network-based application for use with data stored locally by the client. In one embodiment, an appliance host retrieves the network-based application from a remote server based upon the client request and negotiated access terms. In one embodiment, the appliance host operates much like a cache in that rather than automatically retrieving the client-requested network-based application from a remote server, the appliance host first determines if a local copy of the application is stored on the appliance host. If the network-based application is stored on the appliance host, whether pre-installed by the vendor or remaining from a previous client request, then the appliance host executes the locally stored version of the application rather than retrieving a copy from the remote server. Since the network-based application is executed locally (with respect to the client) rather than at the remote server location, any communication interruptions that may occur outside the local network will not affect execution of the network-based application.
