Abstract:
The present invention provides a charged member which has no reduction in the amount of electrostatic charge at high temperature and high humidity and no extreme increase in the amount of electrostatic charge at low temperature and low humidity, improves the adhesion force between a charged member and a coating layer, prevents deterioration of developer through peeling of the coating layer. It provides excellent durability without deterioration of toner through adhering of a toner to the carrier. More particularly, a carrier for electrophotography and a sleeve for electrostatic development which use as a coating material a high-molecular compound containing as an essential component the first monomer represented by the following general formula (1) and/or (2), the second monomer represented by the following general formula (3) and/or (4) and a coupling agent containing a vinyl group are provided.

Abstract:
A method of modifying the triboelectric charging propensity electrostatographic developer carrier particles, comprising the steps of: (A) providing a carrier particles that is uncoated or polymer coated; (B) mixing the carrier particles with either (i) an aqueous basic solution or (ii) an aqueous solution containing from 0.1 to 5.0 weight percent of a soluble acidic metal salt, based on the weight of the carrier particles to form a mixture; and (C) contacting the mixture with the solution, (i) or (ii), not used in step (B) thereby causing a precipitate of an insoluble salt to deposit on the carrier particles wherein the insoluble salt is (a) strontium carbonate; (b) insoluble metal hydroxides; (c) insoluble metal hydrated oxides; or (d) a mixture of two or more of (a), (b) and (c); provided that when a soluble strontium metal acid salt is used in step (B) (ii) and the carrier coating is other than a polyfluorocarbon, a reagent that provides a source of carbonate ions is also used in step (B).
Abstract:
The present invention provides an electrophotographic developer comprising (i) a toner containing, as a fixing resin, a styrene-acrylic copolymer presenting a gel permeation chromatogram showing a molecular-weight distribution in which the detection-starting molecular weight and the detection-ending molecular weight are respectively located in specific ranges, and (ii) a carrier coated with a coating resin which is a styrene-acrylic copolymer containing at least 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate.Even though repeatedly agitated in the developing device, the electrophotographic developer of the present invention is not deteriorated and assures good durability and long life-time.
Abstract:
Magnetic carrier for use in electrophotographic development takes the form of ferrite core particles each having a resinous coating. Ferrite core particles having a limited particle size distribution are coated with a resinous composition based on a copolymer consisting essentially of ethyl methacrylate, 15 to 25% by weight of styrene, up to 2% by weight of dodecyl methacrylate, and up to 2% by weight of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate. The magnetic carrier particles have a resistance of 8.5.times.10.sup.7 to 2.2.times.10.sup.9 .OMEGA.. This carrier has a sharp distribution of electric charge and a quick rise of charging performance. The coating is tough enough to impart durability to the carrier.
Abstract:
A carrier composition comprised of a core with a coating thereover comprised of a mixture of first and second polymers that are not in close proximity thereto in the triboelectric series, which mixture contains a charge enhancing additive.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a carrier and developer composition, and a process for the preparation of carrier particles with substantially stable conductivity parameters which comprises (1) providing carrier cores and a polymer mixture, (2) dry mixing the cores and the polymer mixture, (3) heating the carrier core particles and polymer mixture, whereby the polymer mixture melts and fuses to the carrier core particles; and (4) thereafter cooling the resulting coated carrier particles.
Abstract:
A developer mixture for developing electrostatic images made up of relatively large carrier particles having toner particles electrostatically bonded to them, the carrier particles are small metal particles coated with an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature at least 50*C and below 100*C, with a cellulose acetate butyrate resin containing 10 - 35% by weight acetate, 10 - 40% by weight butyrate and containing less than 60% by weight acetate plus butyrate, or with mixtures of such acrylic resins and such cellulose acetate-butyrate resins.
Abstract:
Magnetically attractable conductive carrier particles such as iron, are treated with resins such as, for example, nitrocellulose, acrylic polymers, polyvinyl chloride polymers and chlorinated rubber. The resin as applied constitutes 2 percent by weight of the weight of iron. The treatment changes the triboelectric charge generated when the toner particles carried on the resin coated iron are separated by attraction to an electrostatic image area. The charge generated is in the range of 0.4 volts to 4.0 volts per milligram of iron and toner mixed and its magnitude will depend on the type of resin. The resin treatment also affects the direction of the toner, i.e., either positive or negative relative to the image area to be developed.
