    摘要: A portable drug delivery device for delivering a drug in liquid or fluid form at a constant and self-regulated rate to a patient comprises a syringe having spring loaded piston reciprocal in a cylinder having a reverse taper to pressurize the drug to be dispensed. The reverse taper on the cylinder results in decreasing friction on the piston as the piston moves in the cylinder during a dispensing cycle, and is designed to compensate for the decreasing force exerted on the piston by the expanding spring. A length of tubing connected to the syringe conveys the drug to a needle or other device for administering the drug to a patient, and a restrictor in the length of tubing impedes flow of the drug to achieve a desired flow rate. The restrictor may be sized to achieve any desired flow rate, and in a preferred form of the invention comprises a laser-burned hole in a fitting attached to the outlet end of the length of tubing.

    摘要: A disposable IV infusion device for ambulatory patients comprises a disk-shaped cover plate and a disk-shaped impeller plate which are interconnected by a stretched membrane that joins the edge of the cover plate with the edge of the impeller plate. The effect of the membrane is to urge the plates into juxtaposition. A fluid port is formed on the cover plate for fluid communication through the port with a collapsible fluid chamber established between the plates. Fluid, when injected into the chamber between the plates, is subsequently expelled through the port for controlled infusion to a patient as the membrane pulls the plates toward each other to collapse the chamber.

    摘要: An infusion pump for administering fluid from a fluid source to a patient comprises a base member having an electric motor for driving a fluid pump housed within a cassette detachably mountable on the base and connectable to the motor. The cassette houses a reciprocative piston and cylinder assembly which both pumps fluid to the patient while simultaneously drawing fluid from the fluid source so as to maintain a continuous flow rate of fluid to the patient. The cassette also houses deformably closable pairs of tubes connecting each of the pump's two fluid chambers to the cassette inlet and outlet respectively to provide the necessary valving to produce continuous flow in cooperation with the reciprocative piston and cylinder assembly. The fluid flow rate is adjustably controlled by a microcomputer which regulates the motor by repeatedly initiating electric motor driving pulses at a predetermined time rate, and terminating them in response to the advancement of the motor beyond one of a plurality of predetermined positions so as to maximize accuracy and reliability of flow rate while compatibly maximizing the power efficiency of the motor for portable applications requiring a battery power source.

Dispensing means isolates a region of the first fluid in the line from effects of pressure in the line outside of the region and repetitively dispenses into and out of the region volume increments of first fluid. Control means, in communication with the pressure measurement means, the displacement means, and the dispensing means, causes the dispensing means to dispense first fluid in increments based on data from the pressure measurement means, such that at least one of the predetermined volume increments of measurement fluid displaced serves as a reference for the volume increments of first fluid outputted.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to an improved cassette for use in an intravenous infusion pump. The cassette of the present invention includes a cassette body which is capable of being removably secured within a volumetric pump. The cassette body has a volumetric chamber of predetermined volume which is placed in communication with an inlet and an outlet. The volumetric cassette includes an inlet corridor through which fluid may flow into the cassette. The inlet corridor in turn flows into a central corridor which leads directly to the volumetric chamber. The cassette also includes an outlet corridor which is also in communication with the central corridor and, in turn, the volumetric chamber. Fluid will, therefore, exit the volumetric chamber through the outlet corridor by way of the central corridor. The outlet corridor is then connected to the patient infusion line. The cassette of the present invention also includes a plunger which reciprocates within the interior of the volumetric chamber.The present invention teaches the use of a diaphragm which covers the portion of the plunger which is exposed to the volumetric chamber. The diaphragm forms a friction seal with the exterior of the cassette body. The diaphragm is formed such that it reciprocates along with the plunger even though it is not securely attached to the plunger. As a result, when the plunger withdraws from the volumetric chamber, the diaphragm withdraws a corresponding distance. When the plunger again enters the volumetric chamber, the diaphragm enters as well.

    摘要: A muscle powered liquid dispensing insert is provided for use with an implanted anchor having a hollow anchor sleeve extending into the subcutaneous fascia of a region behind an animal's ear. The insert includes one or more balloon-like reservoirs, each containing a drug or other medicant in substantially liquid form. Each reservoir means additionally provides effective means for anchoring the insert in the animal. A pump assembly draws the medicant(s) from the reservoir(s), and dispenses such to the animal. The pump assembly has a toroidal pump body defining a pump chamber and including a flexible impermeable pump diaphragm. The pump chamber communicates through inlet check valve means with each of the reservoirs, and through outlet check valve means with the tissue of the animal. The outlet check valve means operate at a higher activation pressure than the inlet check valve means. A piston powered solely by the animal's muscle and tissue operates the pump diaphragm. One or more tubes communicating through the interior of the anchor sleeve between an associated reservoir and a self-sealing opening allow the reservoirs to be refilled. A cap and plug seal the anchor sleeve against the entry of contaminants and other foreign material, and support the self-sealing ends of the tubes. The plug can be removed to allow the insert to be removed from the anchor by means of a suitable tool.
