    摘要: An agricultural tractor comprises lifting devices to which are hitched rotary supports in the form of rollers. The lifting devices push the rollers downwardly relatively to the rest of the tractor. This transfers some or all of the weight of the tractor to the rollers which reduces or eliminates pressure on the underlying surface, and consequent soil compaction, applied by wheels of the tractor. The rotary supports may be drivable and improve traction. If all of the weight of the tractor is placed on the rotary supports, the wheels are raised from the ground.A system is also described for automatically detecting and eliminating or correcting for skidding of the wheels of the tractor.

    摘要: A clutch is arranged to drivingly connect and disconnect the crankshaft members of two internal combustion engines. One engine which is preferably the smaller of the two engines is operated to propel a vehicle by delivering torque through a transmission to a differential and then to the wheels. When to meet the demand for increased power requirements, the clutch is engaged to form a tandem arrangement of engines. Torque is supplied by both engines with the second and larger engine transmitting torque through the crankshaft of the first engine. Clutch members are moved into and out of engagement according to one embodiment and according to a second embodiment, the second and larger engine is moved to force a clutch member into a driving relationship.

    摘要: A tractor having two internal combustion engines which are spaced apart on either side of the longitudinal axis of the tractor and are covered with separate spaced apart cowlings, the driveable rear wheels of the tractor numbering four or six and being mounted on an axle extending laterally from a narrow part of the tractor's body, an enclosed operator's seat and controls spaced above the rear wheels, the seat and controls being selectively rotatable to positions 180 degrees apart whereby the operator optionally faces forward or to the rear, the tractor having forward and rear lifting devices substantially fully visible from the operator's seat between, in front, the spaced-apart engines, the engines, which are identical, being connected through clutches and a gear train to the rear wheels via a torque converter and to a power take-off shaft extending forward and aft, the tractor's frame being a central horizontal beam and cross-beams rigidly connected thereto.

The tractor portion 1 of an articulated tractortrailer vehicle for use in earthworking or mining includes two or four driven wheels connected through common transmission gearing to two power units 9, 10 which have their power shafts arranged longitudinally and are spaced apart to accommodate therebetween a driver's seat or seats and associated controls. As shown both power units 9, 10 are diesel engines which have rearwardly facing radiators 14, 15 and are connected through overruning couplings 21, 22 and transmission gears 16, 17 to a common gear-box 18 coupled by a universal joint to the axle 20 of driving wheels 3. Disposed between housings 11, 12 for the power units 9, 10 is a platform 23 carrying oppositely-facing driver's seats 24 and steering wheel 25. The power units 9, 10 may be of the same or dissimilar size; and may comprise an electric motor fed by a battery or by a current collector contacting a stationary conductor, or a compressed air motor supplied by a compressor which is mounted on the vehicle and is rechargeable from a stationary compressor installation or a compressor driven by the diesel engine. In Fig. 7 (not shown) an electric motor 30 and a compressed air motor 31 are connected by transmission gearing 34, 35 to a common drive input for a driven axle, and the compressed air motor 31 is supplied from a reservoir 32 rechargeable by a pump 33 driven by the electric motor 30.
