Abstract:
Disclosed is process for forming a color filter array layer on a transparent surface, comprising the step of applying a water-borne solid-particle dispersion of randomly disposed colored beads of a water-immiscible synthetic polymer to the surface.
Abstract:
A photosensitive photographic element is described which comprises a support having at least one ? hydrophilic silver halide containing layer. On the hydrophilic silver halide containing layers there is an overcoat layer. The overcoat layer comprises a hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer that is present in the form of a porous membrane. The pores of the membrane are occupied by a hydrophilic composition. In another aspect, there is provided a method of making a photosensitive photographic element comprising a support having a hydrophilic silver halide containing layer and an overcoat layer, the overcoat layer comprising a hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer that is present in the form of a porous membrane wherein the pores of said membrane are occupied by a hydrophilic composition, said method comprising the steps of: (a) forming a solution of said hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer and said hydrophilic component in a solvent, (b) coating said solution on said hydrophilic silver containing layer, and (c) removing said solvent. An image can be produced in the element by the steps of: (1) exposing the photographic element described above so as to produce a photographic latent image in the silver halide layer, (2) processing the photographic element in a manner such that the hydrophilic compound is removed from the overcoat membrane, and (3) heating the processed photographic element so as to soften the hydrophobic thermoplastic polymer thereby closing the pores and producing a clear overcoat layer.
Abstract:
Thermal and photochemical yellowing of a color photographic element, such as a color print, is inhibited by incorporating into the photographic element an ionizable epoxy compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R is H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, or substituted aryl;L.sub.1 is alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, or substituted aryl;L.sub.2 is O, CO, S, SO.sub.2, PO.sub.2, C(O)O, NHCO or NHSO.sub.2 ;L.sub.3 is alkyl or substituted alkyl;m is 0 or 1;p is 0 or 1;X is selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein: R' is H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl,or, if L.sub.2 comprises an ionizable group, X is alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl.

Abstract:
Yellowing of a processed photographic element is inhibited by incorporating a scavenger comound capable of reacting with magenta coupler, e.g. an epoxy compound, in a layer adjacent a layer containing the magenta coupler. In a preferred embodiment, the magenta coupler containing layer is sandwiched between layers containing the scavenger compound. Prior to processing at least one of these layers contains a solubilizing agent for the scavenger compound. In preferred embodiments, the processing solution used to process the photographic element containing an external solubilizing agent for the scavenger compound, preferably benzyl alcohol.
Abstract:
The tendency of a photographically useful compound (PUC) to crystallize when dispersed in an aqueous medium is inhibited by codispersing with the PUC a non-color forming, oil-soluble, monomeric or oligomeric organic compound having a glass transition temperature between 0.degree. and 150.degree. C. Preferred organic compounds are oil-soluble sucrose esters, such as sucrose octaacetate, and rosin and derivatives thereof.
Abstract:
A color photographic silver halide negative working duplicating element comprising a support having thereon at least one red-sensitive photographic silver halide emulsion layer comprising at least one cyan image-dye forming coupler; at least one green-sensitive photographic silver halide emulsion layer comprising at least one magenta image-dye forming coupler; and, at least one blue-sensitive photographic silver halide emulsion layer comprising at least one yellow image-dye forming coupler, provides improved images when (a) at least one of the layers comprises a unit of at least two layers including a first layer and a second layer, the first layer having a higher photosensitivity than the second layers and being farther from the support than the second layers; (b) the first layers contain an image-dye forming coupler in an amount insufficient to react with all the oxidized developer formed during development after maximum exposure; (c) the image-dye forming couplers of the first layers being in a dispersion having a mean particle size of less than 0.14 micron; and, (d) the silver halide grains of the first layers having a mean grain volume less than 0.015 cubic micron. Such a photographic element is especially useful in motion picture film duplication providing reduction in granularity of the image.
